2 psu's 1 system

came accross a few how to guides on using 2 psu's on one computer,

anyone ever done this?

I've never had enough hardware in one box to warrant using two PSUs.

im trying to justify running out and spending £100 on a new psu when i have 2 working 580's lying about.

When you are running three cards in Sli and you are overclocking a 980X which is a power hungry CPU you do need two power supplies. I use two Antec 1200 for benching.

atm the moment iv got a g7 580w, im putting in 2 msi 6850's there is a phenom x2 550be not overclocked. im putting in a asus crosshair 3 mb.

do i need a bigger psu?

And whats the actual power requirement? At the wall with a meter?
