1) Which is better Intel Quad Core 2.4Ghz or AMD Quad Core 2.5Ghz and why?

Intel is the best choice here. They overclock the best, and are the faster chips clock for clock.

The ATI HD4850 cards are the quickest that you can get for that price.

If he is die-hard "I want AMD" and you are buying for him then just get the Phenom (make sure it is one of the 50s, B3s).

It isn't worth the hassle trying to convince him otherwise and then have him bitch when he finds it no faster than his old system (but of course woulda been if he'd got the Phenom...).
 
It isn't that the AMD chips are terrible, far from it but Intel CPUs are currently usually better value for money, overclock further and perform better at stock leaving AMD as a bit of a hard sell.

The ATI 4850 is the best you'll get for the money at the moment.
 
If you've waited about 1week, I've heard the new 9950 phenoms do very well.
Yet we gotta wait for some more tests and bechns.


Otherwise, go for Q6600, the only quad choice.
 
Most people on here will agree that the Intel CPUs are the best to go for at the moment as they have better performance at stock and are extreamly overclockable. At the moment the ATi 4850s seem to be the best value in the price to performance ratio.
