2 quick questions about Playstation 3

hey guys

1)I'll be playing it through my samsung sm226bw through a hdmi to dvi converter. I'm pretty sure this monitor is HDCP compliant, but will the ps3 output at 1680x1050? I know the 360 doesnt and its a big factor in me selling it...

2)can the 40gb model not play any old ps1 or ps2 games??I was under the impression that it was just less games not a complete removal of any backwards compatability:confused:

Not sure about your first question. But it will not have any backward compatibility.

The 40Gb still has full PS1 compatibility, but no PS2.

Well the PS1 is 100% emulated by software, the same for all the versions of the PS3, whereas the PS2 has been done by either full hardware or part hardware part software in the 60 and 80GB models. Also Sony put PS1 games on the PSN to download and play on your PS3. If you look around the net it pretty much confirms this.
 
It offers a lot less options resolution wise than the Xbox360, which will offer a resolution closer or as close as the Xbox360.

You will not have any PS2 compatibility at all, however PS1 is emulated via software I believe and is available.

no it only does native tv resolutions meaning that on my 1680x1050 i have to play at 720



on the ps3 would i be able to play with it set to 1080 and crop the image or would i have to set it to a lower resolution?
 
lol :p. No point me editing it I guess :(.
Funnily enough, first time I wrote it both said PS3 too and I remember thinking "*tsk*, idiot!"
