1) why the hell doesn't it have a close button

2) is there a way to stop it always wanting the user password?

I like the fact it doesn't have a close button as I'd accidentally hit it too may times! I just hide it when in use and use the quit button on the rare times I don't have it running.

As for the password:

Why does MAMP ask me for a password when starting or stopping?

You probably have set the Apache port smaller than 1024. Under a Unix system like Mac OS X you must have "root" (administrative) privileges to start IP-services using ports smaller than 1024.
 
ahh good answers!

(i'd prefer the button though, loads of mac apps stay open but just close the window when you press close but hey ho)
