2 red rings

My Xbox has starting displaying 2 red rings. At first it happened after using for a long time, but now it does 10-15 seconds after turning it on. I've opened it up to make sure the heat sinks are not covered in dust.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? I read that replacing the thermal compound is a good idea.
 
my xbox red rings about once every 2-3 months. just keep turnign it on and off via the power button (not the socket) i have done this 10+ times and works a treat. sometimes you need to do it a lot, sometimes a few.

so if you have 20 minutes to sit there turning your xbox on and off. give it a go.

Does it display 2 red rings 10-15 seconds after turning it on?
 
Has anyone tried applying new thermal paste? I was thinking of giving it a go, but if everyone thinks the chances are that I'll need to buy a new Xbox, then I don't want to bother.

did you keep turning it on and off? (give it about 3-5 seconds inbetween each time) if it dosnt work after about 20 mins then the chances are it wont at all, and you will need a replacment or someone who knows the EXACT way of fixing it

never had to try, but my mate did it gave him another 2 weeks of gameing, till it died fully

mines done 3 lights and 2 lights its well out of warranty as its a launch console......

It recently packed in again and I was about to buy a new one then i took it apart and with the case open works perfect, not pretty i know but it works :)
