2 separate matched pairs of DDR3 in a P55 m/b - are problems likely?

Hi all

I'm planning on building a system around a p55 motherboard (either i5 or i7 860). I'll be using the machine for some 3d rendering, and would ideally like to buy 4GB DDR3 to begin with and then add another 4GB matched pair later (same make and model). Anyway, I've read conflicting info about this and was wondering if doing this could cause problems? (ie might system stability suffer if I don't buy all 8GB as a matched set).

Any info, thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated :)

Many thanks in advance!

edit - oops, should also mention that I'll be using windows 7 home premium 64 bit

It should work fine whatever channel you put them in But I would use each matched pair in either channel and you should have no negative effect.

aslong as there all running the same. You can have a pair running at 1600mhz and another at 1333 :) im sure that might cause some bad effect.

many thanks for the info, much appreciated! :)

Yes, Yellowbeard, that's pretty much it. I'm trying to keep the initial build as cheap as poss (cash flow problems, as always :) ). Also, buying 8GB sets of matched ddr3 is rather more expensive than buying 2 separate matched pairs
