Hi

Is is possible to run 2 servers on one network?

The reason is that 2 organisations are sharing one building.

Organisation 1 - SBS 2011 server with 20 clients. All clients are plugged in to IP phones.

Organisation 2 - Server 2008 with 30 clients. All Clients are plugged in to IP phones.

Both organisations share the same 3CX phone system and all DHCP is handled by the Draytek router 2830.

I've bene told that as long as I manually set the DNS server as the right server one ach client there will be no problems but I want to tun this past experts such as yourselves.

Thanks for any help.

This sounds like a terrible idea. From a security point of view I just died a little.

It's possible as long as you can live without DHCP. Do they need a DNS server each?

What are the servers going to be used for?

sounds like its already set up?

your client machnies will have a break down and take 4 mins to log in if they dont speak to the correct DNS server...

i am sure if can be sorted so 1 dns server "rules them all", but in such a small setup I would manually set the correct DNS server for the lower number of machines...

if the phone system will be happy talking to the clients via a router you could..

1) install DHCP on both servers
2) plug phone system / inet router into a switch of their own
3) plug both server / client setups into their own set of switches
4) buy 2 router to attach the two new server / client subnets to the new internet / phone sytem subnet...

note I say seperate routers on putpose to keep it simple and the kit cheap... (as is for small business)

sbs2011 for email and printer/file sharing & 2008 for printer & file sharing.

The Draytek does have this 4 x VLAN facility so if I was to do this:-

VLAN 1 - SBS2011 server, clients and IP phones
VLAN 2 - 2008 server, clients and IP phones

Where would the 3CX IP phone server go so that phones from both VLAN 1 & 2 could 'talk' to each other?
