Hey guys, ive got a Ryobi 3046YE 30CC brushcutter/strimmer, with strimmer, blade brushcutter, and hedge trimmer attachments and in desperate need of doing the garden work, but it wont start or run correctly. Now i did get this second hand last year and it ran ok if a little spluttery, now just flat refuses to work right at all.

The problem is - I can get it to start but its almost like its on full throttle, and then pressing the trigger it will cut the engine completely, almost like once started its just going full whack.

Its had a new spark plug fitted, fresh fuel, no visable leaks from fuel lines, spark arrestor is clear, exhaust/muffler ports clear, i cannot work out what the devil is wrong.
Carb adjustments are baffling to me, dont understand it, nor do i even know if they are in the correct position at all, they are the most clockwise they will go (plastic stoppers) so only counter clockwise adjustments can be made - idle screw is backed off completely, but still runs full tilt once started.

Mixed with 2 stroke oil at 50:1 ratio as indicated on the unit and the documents ive found online, but no where can i find a thing about the carb or this specific issue.

Hopefully one of you guys will know more about these type of things than i do.

you probabbly want some carb cleaner, and also make sure the gap on the plug is right, 2 stroke needs to be ran on the choke till its warm. ( fast idle)

Have you tried taking the carb apart and cleaning with carb cleaner?

Also is the float bowl clean?

Edit; I had a Ryobi petrol lawnmower with a similar issue, ended up selling it on Ebay for parts/not working and saved up for a Honda, never looked back.

Plug i adjusted to the stock one, i mean it starts no issues, just dies when throttle is pressed and always seems to be running at full throttle prior to pressing throttle.
This model has a strange choke, its like an automatic release thing, flip it to the cold start position and as soon as you press the trigger it flips the choke upto the warm setting.

Scary stuff when the blade attachment is on it, as that thing looks like its going to take off lol.

As for the carb, no i havent taken it apart, nor do i think i would succeed at putting it back together correctly - plus i have no idea on the carb jet adjustments so would probably wreck it, have strange plastic cap limiters.

I foolishly bought a Ryobi hedge trimmer in a hurry two years ago which coincidentally suddenly gave up this week. It has a very similar 'easy start' choke setup. I have tried every thing I can, but it refuses to start despite being used only a week ago, and I have the blisters to prove it.
From what I can tell the carbs aren't truly serviceable, you can clean them, but service kits/parts don't exist for them. I'm giving up on this one despite that it still owes me at least another season and going for a Stihl.
I bought my Stihl FS90 strimmer second hand and its started first time every time for the last 6 years.
I think this junk was designed for disposal.
