LG C3 used as the primary monitor.

Would quite like to connect to my S95B that faces my reclining chair so that I can alternate between that and the C3, depending on use.

4K 120hz desired.

My 7900XTX only has 1 HDMI output, 3DP. Should have bought the 2 HDMI version!

Tried my HDMI switcher, used to work fine for my consoles, but the PC obviously doesn’t like it as no signal gets sent through.

Am I cooked?

Any 5080s that offer 2 HDMI?

You could use a Display Port adapeter but would need to be one that converts to HDMI 2.1 to get over 60Hz at 4K I think. (I think HDMI 2.0 is limited to 60Hz at 4K)

Worth checking if your motherboard has a HDMI output as you could just use that instead if its decent spec.

You could use a HDMI switch but would need to be a HDMI 2.1 one which probably costs more than your standard switcher.

So I realised what I was doing wrong. My old switcher is uni directional, 2 devices into one screen. No wonder it didn’t work. So have ordered one that should do the reverse. In theory, like my old one, it should do 120hz. Easier than swapping the cable over for the time being.

DP to HDMI

They all seem to be limited to 60hz, which wouldn’t be the end of the world. I can’t find one that would do 120hz. A few claim to, but the reviews state otherwise.

I think the splitter would at least keep me going until I change my gpu and get one with x2 hdmi next time. I would go for a 5080, but it isn’t enough of an upgrade. Maybe a 5090 in due course.

The DP>HDMI I have is

TECHTOBOX Display Port to HDMI 8K Adapter (8K@60Hz,4K@120Hz,2K@144Hz) Uni-Directional DP Source 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 Display Female Adapter for PC,Dell,AMD,NVIDIA

I don't have a 4k 120Hz+ display to test with, so can't confirm for you but worth a punt at that price and you could always return it if not (I returned another one before that is it wouldn't handle 60Hz consistently with a 5m cable!)

Edit: missed the bit about you buying a new switcher!

Well it’s not as tidy as it was since I’m struggling to get cables to reach, so cable management is out the window, but it works at 4K 120. Good thing I ordered a few cables, wouldn’t work with anything more than 2m total from source to screen. So 0.5m from gpu and then 1.5m to each screen. It’s a bit tight, but it works!

If you need longer lengths, I think optical cables are more or less unaffected by length - 5m was a necessity for my setup and the HMDI cable I'm using now is fibre, although I strongly suspect that the previous high bandwidth one was fine and the problem was something else (not sure if a general thning or specific to my card, but it REALLY doesn't seem to get on with HDCP/4k/Dolby!)

You definitely don't need fibre for 5m. I've got two 5m 2.1 leads which work perfect. Above and you'd potentially start seeing issues.

Sounds like their best cable can’t do VRR :(

I think I’ll have to put up with slightly untidier cables for now until I get a gpu with two hdmi ports.

I assume it’s some kind of restriction of the switcher that stops me being able to use longer cables, although I was expecting a poorer signal vs no signal at all over 2m. At least it just about works.

oof unpopular opinion though I think VRR is the past and instead using frame gen so you always have a frame at the perfect time fight me :P
