2 VM Superhubs? Help please!

Hi all, please be gentle, out of my depth here!

I have the VM Superhub and whilst speed is good range is shocking!

For some reason Virgin sent 2 Superhubs to me when I ordered it so I want to know if I can connect both to extend the network.

I have connected together via Ethernet cable and the following happens -

The 1st hub still works fine
I can connect to the 2nd hub and this also works fine.
When I reconnect to the 1st hub I get no Internet connection.

Tried this several times with the same result.

Can anyone help? Ideally I would like to use the same network name to avoid having to connect to different networks. Is this possible ?

Thanks for reading

Steve

You need to check if you can turn of DHCP on the secone superhub, I'm not sure if Virgin's firmware will allow this though. You will also need to make sure that both wireless are on different channels if you want them to have the same name to avoid conflict.

Looking around on Google it seems you can't use the superhub to extend the network. Seems you'll be better off buying a cheap router instead if you want to extend the wireless range.

Ok thanks, I've setup my old net gear router to do this but obviously don't get the same speeds.

As for network name is it possible to run both on the same name or is it wiser to leave as separate networks?

I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve? the Superhub has poor wifi in general so adding an extra one to the network is unlikely to make any difference, in fact it might make it worse with the added interference. Have you thought about contacting Virgin to get a Superhub 2? the wireless is much better apparently. Otherwise, just stick the Superhub in modem mode and use a dedicated router with good wireless like a lot of people do.

I'm assuming he's using a long ethernet cable to place the second router closer to the area with low signal. That way the Superhub can deal with one area while the second router can deal with another.

As I said in my first post, you can have both wireless with the same name, but they must be set to different wireless channels to avoid any interference and conflict between the two. Example, the superhub's wireless is on channel 1 while the second router's wireless is on channel 6.

Yes that's correct, sorry if I'm not being clear with my descriptions.

Apologies somehow missed that part of your post.

Thanks for your patience, will see how I get on!

Apologies for opening up old thread.

Need advice on a signal booster or repeater for wifi? I have concrete walls in my home and Superhub is just not cutting it.

Could anyone please recommend me a decent but not too expensive router/wireless access point?

Mainly using wifi for Iphones so needs to be compatible. Price around £50 max.

I have 100mb VM and the original superhub.

Thanks in advance ;)

Could pick up a DIR-615 and put DD-WRT on it for stupid cheap. If all you want is a repeater, then it'll do the job fine.

Nymins thank you very much for your reply mate, much appreciated.

I just got off the phone to VM about their new Super Hub but they want £50 so not sure which direction is best.

Will definitely look into the DIR-615 cheers ;)

3rd party offerings by Asus are worth spending money on.

£50 on a super hub? no chance.
