URGENT!!
I am in the process of decorating and require a new light switch.
Old one= RED SPLIT IN L & L

Black L1 Red L2 Black L1

New switch = Com 1 L11 L12

Com 2 L21 L22

Where do existing wires go in new layout please.

Bad idea asking a load of PC "geeks" (sorry gents but you know its true) for advice on mains electrics!! If you don't know or cant work it out by probing with a multimeter then I would leave that stuff well alone and get a sparkie!

I had this exact issue when fitting a PIR sensor in my bathroom last week. Managed to probe it out with a meter.

Can you post a picture of the two switches and if possible how the original wiring was (www.imgure.com and copy the link etc).

I think I can visualise how it might go, but I am not a sparky and last time I did two way switches was for our garage nearly 25 years ago, and the downstairs hall around 15 years back.

If in doubt with any mains electrics I would always tend to ask a sparky or leave it until I'd had a chance to check! (I've had to fix a few of my sisters friends attempts to fit lights and I hate sorting it out).

Two way is a pain. Have to take photo of existing wiring before remove old switch otherwise it's hard to figure out I've found.

Note the difference between gangs and ways.

Your com1 and com2 terminals refer to the gangs on the switch i.e you have two independent switches. Each switch has L1 and L2 which are the ways. So you have a 2 gang 2 way switch.

Note that where you have black going into your switch terminals it won't be a neutral it will be a switch live.

Op a photo would be required, we can't help you from the basic information you supplied.
