Hi

If I have 2 wireless access points (1 is a linksys and the other a d-link) can they be setup as one ie. the wireless on a laptop sees it as just one wide wireless zone and will use either of them automatically?

Do I have to give them both the same SSID & wpa2 key?

Thanks

I think I set something like this up before, I think they were Dlink ones I used before, can't remember off the top of my head what the setting was though!

I'll have a scout around :)

One a/p is on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Both are connected to the switch via cat 5 cable. The range of each one doesn't reach to the oter floor.

I want it so that if you go from the ground floor to the first you remain connected as if it was just one a/p covering both floors.

Thanks for the help so far

Peefect. Thanks for the help everyone. I will try it today.

I'm looking to do this exact same thing,

does this work then without you have to disconnect and reconnect??

Sure does, I use this set up myself, i run a linksys WRT54G (with tomato firmware), and a Belkin N1 Vision.

I use the N1 as the first and the Linksys as the 2nd. The link I gave a few posts back is the basic way to do things, it gave me the starting blocks for my set up.

how good is it ? with the linksys set at 78% (standered is like 23-28), I can acces my network at a m8's, and thats 2 roads away !!!. I do fell sorry for anyone around me trying to use the same channels as me !!!

I take it doesn't matter if I don't use the same make/model AP, as i have a Belkin and a netgear. or do i need to use tomato firmware??

I'm looking at setting up a gigabit lan, when i get a house, and have a dedicated DHCP server and modem
