2 X 2 sets of same DDR5 ram. Which sockets per pair?

When I installed the memory. I populated all 4 slots. I put the first pair in slot A1&A2. The second pair in slot B1&B2.

Should I have the pairs in this formation... Or should I have gone pair 1 in A1&B1 and the second pair in A2 & B2.

Both are matching 2x(2x16GB) sets to form 64GB purchased at same time. Can't remember exact timings. But they are G-Skill 6400Mhz currently running at 5000Mhz. Above this, they become unstable. The XMP timings were untenable running 6400Mhz at 64GB.

Is there a best slot configuration for each pair? Does mixed same pairs matter? Any advise is appreciated.

The motherboard manual is not the clearest on this. It eludes to populating in the following order... A1 B1 and A2. But is not clear about if this is best configuration for each pair. Funny it only shows 3 sticks in the last illustration.

Regarding speed, I'd come to same conclusion as this. To be honest, I'm a bit ****** to have spent the extra on the faster ram... I'll just leave it running stable at 5000Mhz. I'm not a massive overclocker, so I'm not chasing every clock.

I usually build a new PC every 8 to 10 years with the newest top tech. Just sometime this bites you in the ass as there's not much info to help untill it's reasonably well adopted...

Filling all the modules with high speed ram has been a problem for such a long time now that I'd forgotten when I built this one.

I guess the question here in the back of my mind is... Can I improve the memory frequency marginally to make better use of what I paid for if I correctly pair the matched pairs in the correct slots?

Unlikely, though it would help to know what CPU and motherboard you're using, since we can have a quick scoot around on reddit, l1techs and the like.

Thanks... I've known about this issue with 12th gen Intel i9 since purchase in 2022... Recent windows boot issues and new memory related BSOD issues have made me revisit this again! The reason I'm asking about the order of the RAM is purely because I wandered if mixing 2 sets of 2 slips may cause an issue. I understand that each pair are sold as a binned matching pair which I may have mixed together on the board. I may take them out and look at the serials at some point. I think my issues are greater than this though.

I'm considering moving from 4 16gb to 2 32GB slips and moving these 4 into a future build that can handle the memory in 4 slots. First though I need to determine if I need to warrantee these.

This came to light too late for me as an early adopter of DDR5 memory on the i9 12th gen platform... I've been round the forums and Youtube since 2022 trying to get the best out of the memory. Personally I think motherboard packaging should have provided a warning about using 4 slips instead of 2!
