Bit of a dilemma.

I have a HIS 5770 amongst other things (rig in sig).

I am mulling over whether to get another one, or sell mine and buy a 5870.

Money wise crossfiring another 5770 makes much more sense.

I could probably, if lucky, get about £100.00 for my card meaning I would have to shell out another £220.00 to get the cheapest 5870, or just buy another 5770 for £120.00 and save £100.00.

I game and surf only.

What do you chaps reckon? I am leaning towards crossfiring as I have plenty of juice for it with my 750w PSU.

This upgrade on the GPU will be coming with a Crosshair 4 mobo and a 1090T AMD processor.

Crossfire! But you could sell the 5770, and get two 5830s for a similar cost of a 5870.

I woulodn't get a 5870 either way CF 5770s are about level with one I think.

Cheers that is what I was thinking.

Only slightly annoying thing is I will have to get the same card, purely for aesthetics and mine is still retailing at £130 when you can get other brands for £115 now. :D

A more sensible choice would be between another 5770 and a 5850. 5850 can be had for a more reasonable price, and will still leave you the option of xfiring another one later on down the line, provide less hassle with driver issues/game compatibility, etc. They can also be OC'ed to 5870 performance so are approx the same value as 2 5770s, but with the ease of a single card solution and leaves you with an upgrade path. The biatch, however, is having to sell the 5770. It's the path I'd take though (trust me, I've been thinking about it for a while!)

I had 2 X 5770 until recently and couldn't fault them. However I decided to sell them and i bought a 1Gb Sapphire 5850 Toxic, with the intention of getting another for crossfire in august. i havn't seen any difference in the games I play and as long as they are playable until August I'll be happy. I paid £265 for the 5850 Toxic and I havn't even overclocked it yet, i wont if performance is ok. I cant believe how quiet and cool this card is. 30c at idle on 21% fan and 55c at load on 45% fan which is barely noticable.:)

Ah forgot to post that.

Currently pretty rubbish 1280 x 1024 on a 19".

This will also be changed when I order all the stuff. Looking at a 22" Samsung.

If youre not going to be using at least 1920x1080, then I dont think you would need a second 5770.

Also, if you do want to use two 5770s, or a 5800 card, theres no point to crippling their sheer awesomeness with a measly 22" screen :p

Go for a 24" at least, but I would strongly recommend to get one of the £270 27" inch monitors instead:

The size of your monitor can be restricted by nothing more than the space on your desk. A 22" monitor in my setup is just right, a bigger monitor would be too close :( Plus a smaller monitor allows you to play at native resolution for longer without having to upgrade (for those of us without money to burn)

How is a 24" monitor any closer to you than a 22" monitor unless the display is deeper? Just because a display has a 2" wider screen size dosent mean it will be any deeper.

Also why play in low res when games shine in high res. 1 x 5770 is fine for 98% of pc games @ 1080p.
