2 x 680's not cutting it.

My GTX690 is fine at 1920x1080 @ 2xAA. I did run at 4xAA but found i hit the barrier finally at a couple of heavy points in the game, so dropped the AA down a step.

I wouldn't be surprised at VRAM issues at 2560x1440. I'd advise running it on the High Preset with some AA.

But, but but I want new cards now!!! :D

What is a cut down Maxwell anyway?

Andi.

Basically like the Titan X which is soon going to be released with not as high specs (sorry for the juvenile wording :p). For example the GTX 780 was a cut down version of the original Titan.

But yeah if you want cards now then there's no chance of you waiting for the next high end cards.

Sorry but I don't do AMD, it's just a thing ;)

Andi.

OK then you're looking at £900 or so for two 980s that will net you about 10-15% more performance.

IE - it's time to try something else, mate.

AMD are the 4k champions if that's where you're headed and I believe their Crossfire drivers are far, far better than they used to be. Just one look at this review says it all really.

Believe me I am an absolutely die hard Nvidia fan. But after what they did with the 970 and their rubbish memory buses that screw up 4k I am most certainly going AMD once my Titan Blacks say uncle.

If somebody doesn't want top jump ship because they'd rather stay with what they know, then fair enough. He knows he's paying a buttload more, it's up to him.

Although money is important I'm of an age where I generally buy what I want. Maybe 2x970's will suffice for now, then see how The Witcher 3 goes on May.

I have had some odd experiences with AMD over the years and so feel much more comfortable with an Intel/Nvidia set up.

Hey, lets not make this a fan boy war but I won't be buying AMD any day soon

970 SLI = complete false economy as the memory and bus fall to pieces when called on.

You're looking at £900 for two 980s. If you can afford it and that's what you want fine, but SLI 970 is a complete waste of money.
