Hi

I wanted to get another XBOX for upstairs so that when the wife unit wanted to waste her time watching mammoth corrie sesions i could play games.

This seems to be trickier then i thought. I bought another XBOX premium and thought i'd just be able to move my wireless thing upstairs then log into my live account and play games, but the xbox insists on downloading my entire live account every time i change console and the other one becomes invalid.

am i doing something stupid or is there no sensible way to have 2 consoles?

thanks for replys.

moving the hdd kinda defeats the problem though i wanted the premium so i didnt have to move the hdd all the time, and memory card seems silly when i have 2 hdd's sat around.

maybe ill take the thing back if theres no other convenient way to have 2 consoles with one gamercard.

Do the above, take it back and get an arcade and memory card, then you can copy your gamertag and saves on to the memory card.

id just move the hd its not that much of a hassle. Heck of a lot easier than recovering the tag or wondering which has which saves/arcade games.

I just put the HDD on whichever I am playing, can imagine it would be a right faff keeping up with what saves etc. were most up to date on which storage device.

I have a memory card (bought a Core on release and could not get a hdd for love nor money) I keep my profile on it and a few games that I might want to play downstairs, its completely hassle free and good at LANs where you can pull it out of your console and put it in your pocket so no one can log on to your console and send any messages to your friends list about you coming out. ;) or tampering with your game settings ;(

But a word of warning, some game saves are not transferable between card and hdd. Most are but Viva pinata and PDZ for example will not let you transfer your saves. So its best to save on your HDD first and then trancefer to your memory card when required.

tbh i wanted a seperate console and was willing not to mess with the saved games (another reason to play GH3 and GTA through again) etc but i wanted to keep any achievements i might get on my travels and thats about it.

thinking about it the bundle was a fairly good deal (i got mass effect and euro 2008) thrown in for £200 quid. and the core is still about 150 quid anyway.

how does it work with a memory card then ? what size is recommended for this purpose? how big are the save games?

The biggest game saves I have come across so far is Forza at 34MB and Viva Pinata is 8 MB for your profile and 4MB per garden.

5MB is what I consider a large game, most games are several hundred K. The above examples are what I categorize as "Stupidly large saves"

Up until I had to move Fozra off Miss Ks HDD I had 10+ games saved on my memory card.

IIRC they were
Crackdown (multiple profiles)
PDZ
Viva Pinata
Rainbow 6 vegas
FEAR
Starwars
GH3 (multiple bands)
Some others

I also had 4 - 5 profiles on my memory card (my own one has grown to 5MB)

Cheers Krono

So to clarify if i get a 64mb card and stick my profile on it i can just take the memory card upstairs and plug it in and my account will be fine without having to recover my gamertag?

Correct

I have a 64 MB card but if you can get a 256mb card for reasonable money I'd go with that. Less hassle with saves.

I do sometime have to swap the HDDs on the consoles for games such as Halo or GRAW where there is DLC that I want to play. But generally when I play these games I play them on my primary console and only use Miss Ks for games that I can play whilst watching my Son destroy the room around me

you cant do what your trying to do because then you would have 2 instances of your gamer profile and you would be able to set up matches against yourself etc to get easy achievements

Putting your gamercard on your Memory Unit is the easiest and best way to do it. You can then easily go on any other 360, sign in and not have your account become invalid.

Even if it did work the way you wanted, would it not be annoying having different saves on 2 different boxes?
The memory card would also be good for moving saves between box's.

My Live and game saves are all on a memory unit incase i decide to go round a mates to play on there xbox, i can just pickup my wireless controller and memory unit and off i go.

I appreciate that could be a concern but I just wanted 1 central gamer profile. i dont see it as a big ask considering people might travel around all over the place. assuming i was willing to lose my save games which i frankly didnt expect to be able to keep it makes sense to be able to bob round to your mates and use your own gamercard, and if you do get an achievement etc it gets added to your account.

thanks for the help anyway chaps one memory card will be winging its way to me.
