I'm in the market for a 20" screen to be used exclusively for photo editing. I had a read of Badass's's's review/FAQ and it seems that the NEC is the best kit for the job:

NEC MultiSync® LCD20WGX2 Pro 20.1" Wide screen LCD Monitor

I like everything about the screen, but noticed that it is a couple of years old now... Is there anything better out there in that £300ish price band or is this the best screen for the job?

I don't know much about the LCD20WGX2 Pro 20.1 but if you were to put a bit more money away then a 24" dell 2408wfp Rev A01 could be just the ticket for photo edting. Get a calibrator and away you go. The extra 4" makes a big difference for photoshop toolbars all across the screen. Another good monitor could be the Hazro HZ24W if it every comes out. I will be getting one of these two soon don't know which one yet.. I do a lot of photo editing and 3d stuff so for me the large screens work out great, what i did come across when i was looking into buying a new screen was the Samsung SyncMaster XL20. this cost a bit but if you google the reviews it does very well and OcUK sell them and it's 20 inch screen.

Wouldn't bother with a 20" widescreen, hardly any bigger than a 17" 4:3 monitor. And 2 years is a long time in LCD tech, as the the technology improves pretty fast, you could get better for less now.

24" / 1920x1200 would be perfect, it's great working on a monitor with a good amount of screen space. And you can get them under £300 now so no excuse not to get one...

The Samsung does seem a very good screen, but it's another big step up in price. There may be a possibility of moving up to the 24" mark, but I'll have to read around and see what's available. The Hazro seems to tick all the boxes, but again - that's well into the £500 range. Is the S-ips tech still the best for Photo editing, or are there better variants available now?

Edit: I've just read the review of the Dell 2408WFP over at TFT Central and this could be the perfect screen - especially at the price! Anyone suggest a better option?

Don't bother with the Dell for photo editing - it's a S-PVA which means you get horizontal gamma shift. If accurate colour reproduction is an issue stear clear.

The NEC is you want 20" is a good option, or if you want 24" the Hazro, the new rev of which should be hitting OcUK in about 2-3 weeks,
