20" Screen for me

my current desktop is a 3 year old iiyama 19" LCD tv with a res of 1280x1024 and a response of 25 ms.

Im looking to upgrade mainly because the screen is annoying me with its fan and has a high pitched sound under certain circumstances.

The new screen must have

+Dual inputs (dvi + vga)
+20" or 21"
+must be silent in operation.
+Mainly black
+would prefer it to do both 1:1 and stretch as my current lcd does, but its not essential as the 7600 in my notebook should be able to handle the scaling right?
+would prefer built in speakers

I have a mac mini does anyone know if the intel gfx support 1600x1200 or 1650x1050.

Trusted reviews consider the samsung SM-215TW 21 to be the current king, is that the opinion of the hardcore here?

I also have a 32" widescreen lcd tv and my notebook is widescreen too but for some silly reason im torn between getting a 1600x1200 over a 1650x1050

Thanx for any help :D

The NEX 20WGX is praised a lot more on here.

I've seen much more praise for the NEC than the Samsung across user opinions on forums. What are your uses going to be though?

It's just a GMA900/950, so yes.

OCUK are the only forums on the entire web that have weird orgasmic sheep like user reactions to the NEC. On other forums, opinions are a lot more objective and balanced.

I'm not quite following you. What are you trying to say about the OcUK forum community ? and not quite sure why you quoted Kreeeee specifically.

That's not correct. When I was researching the NEC and other monitors before I purchased I came across a lot of other forums etc with very favourable comments towards this monitor. Sure, people wax lyrical here about it, but they do about other brands/models as well. If you buy something that matches or exceeds your expectations then its hard not to.....and the NEC is one of those monitors imo :)

I've seen plenty of tfts in action at my workplace and from family members/mates that have them and this NEC is the best I've seen in the price range. Only mega expensive pro monitors look better from my experience.

Because if you look at his former posts he bought a Dell 2007 and is annoyed that I tried one and disliked it and settled for an NEC in the end. It's very childish to let that chip on his shoulder spill into other threads though. Looking at his previous posts he generally seems to be a foul character who tries too hard to be disliked.

Back on topic:

Have a search around these forums. The NEC is the closest you can get to CRT quality in a widescreen TFT right now by a long shot which is why it is so highly recommended. The 215 has had some good reviews but for the price I want perfection and for me the NEC provides that.

I wouldn't flatter yourself. From all the reviews i have read, the NEC comes out on top.
The reason the Samsung is still a good choice is because it is also very good, atleast comparable to the NEC. It has more connections, uncluding a HDCP compatible DVI and it has speakers. It better matches the requests of the OP.
That doesn't mean the NEC isn't the better display however.
