20" versus 22" for reading text

I am currently using a 17" LG Flatron L1710B at 1280*1024 (none-widescreen), and I am thinking of upgrading. I want a wide-screen monitor with at least the same vertical resolution, so this means 20" or greater. I will be using the monitor for games and also working with documents - so the size of the text on the screen is important to me. I'm happy with my 17" text size, so I don't anything that displays text much smaller.

When I read specs for monitors, how do I judge how big text will be displayed? I know that 22" run at the same res as 20" (1680*1050), so obviously 22" will display text much bigger than a 20". But will 20" still be quite readable? (I have my exisiting monitor about 18" away from my eyes).

What about a 24" monitor compared to 20"/22"?

Is this what the pixel pitch spec is telling me? For my 17" Flatron the pixel pitch is 0.264mm.

Thanks for any help
