Ah well, I have the hardware curse the past few weeks.
The 20" DELL has gone back to its owner, at first it seemed fine but late at night when all was quite I noticed a strange buzzing/whining coming from the unit, sound maybe like a noise coming from the internal PSU?
Ok that aside the next problem I found with this unit was it could not run 1280x1024 res for a lot of 3D?
I had the normal desktop res of 1680x1050 selected but as the graphics card wasn't state of the art (nVidia 6600LE/Radeon 9800Pro) I reduced the resolution in games to 1280x1024 (incorrect aspect ratio I know), however as soon as I load the game (or 3D Mark) the whole screen became scrambled?
At first I didn't realise what was going on and assumed it was a graphics card driver related problem so I carefully unistalled the original drivers, rebboted into safe-mode, then restarted once more and installed an earlier set of drivers to see if that helped. I continued this process for a few hours and still no joy.
After a bit of head scratching I then changed the actual desktop res to 1280x1024 and voila! problem gone? So it seems there was some weirdness going on somewhere.
I'm not sure what you call that process where the monitor quickly toggles down to another res (scaling? what?) bu this particular unit couldn't do it with a few certain res's, 1024x768 was fine but 1280x1024 was totally borked.
I wonder if any The Dell™ E207WFP owners have had this problem or can maybe test it for me?
I'm tempted to buy a brand new one as the price is good atm but am hesitant in case the new unit can't scale either?
