whats the length*height size of the screens? Ive allways been thinking of getting a 22" by i quite like the size of this here old square CRT 320*242 screen.
I would be using the monitor for CAD work and thinking that the extra size would have benefits, but yet the extra money saved would be better off for me as I'm a student........mmh decisions

but pythagoras you need to know two lengths, and all i kow is that I want it at least the height *currently blanked on the legnth* and one cant use SIN-COS-TAN as i dont know the angle that a widescreen has corner to corner... I could work it out using 16:9 but that is too much effort.

inv tan ( 10 / 16 ) = 32.0 degrees, then you do sin and cos of 32 degrees multiplied by the monitor diagonal to get the lengths of the two sides. PC monitors are 16:10 not 16:9.

20" = 16.96 * 10.60 inches (430 * 269 mm)
22" = 18.66 * 11.66 inches (474 * 296 mm)

So you would gain height in both cases. Is that a 17" CRT then?

well i measured corner to corner and it came up as 42cm which is 16.5inch, so yeah suppose it is a 17" CRT thing. I might just go for the 20"..still got a month to decide and actually try and get the money!

edit: and thanks for working it out for me. I really shuold start using the £80 graphical calculator that we had to buy for one eyar of maths *muters about stupid school*

edit 2: an other thing to decide on weather i need the bigger 22" for CAD work and then what graphics card to get, but i think that my budget is the bigger factor for things.
