After snooping around a bit and just getting ideas together i decided to up my budget which leads me to thinking about 20" WS monitors. I like the high res in widescreen (1680x1050), but there's a few choices.

1. Belinea 102035W
2. Viewsonic VX2025
3. Dell 2005FPW

They all cost roughly the same - although the Dell can be had about £10 cheaper from somewhere.
I've heard bad things about the Viewsonic and it's backlight bleed. The belinea looks nice, but the design of the Viewsonic looks better, and then there's the Dell which i've heard great things about, but the low response time and such.
Budget is around £320 (all within that budget).

Which would be the best to go for? Cheers.

You could always go 1" smaller to the Acer 19" widescreen for £180, a total steal if you ask me.

tbh Baker, I'd be a lot more concerned about backlight bleed and panel uniformity on the Dell 2005FPW than on either of the other two models, it has been plagued by issues since it's release :( The Belinea and VS certainly offer the edge in regards to responsiveness and are more modern panels than that used in the 2005FPW. It depends what your use is going to be for the screen, and which you prefer the design / functionality of as well. I think all models have had reports of backlight issues since their release, none of them are totally safe in this regards, but the Dell is probably the worst of the bunch historically

Ideally i'd use the screen for anything and everything. Movies, bit of gaming, office work/internet browsing, music, image editing etc. I'm pretty much an all-round user but i'm getting fed up of this 17" CRT and it's ability to take up most of my desk.

I'm in the same boat as you Baker. However i'm also tempted by the Acer Ferrari F-20. It has more inputs than the Belinea and VS, and all the specs look decent. It also looks fantastic and the price is well within your budget now. Been on the forum a few weeks now but yet to post, just wondering what your thoughts are on the F-20 Baddass, if any?

I've also noticed the phillips drop in price to around the same mark as the others recently, would that pip the rest to the post?

adding the Acer F-20 and Philips 200W6CS into the mix changes things a bit. These are both based on the same 8ms S-IPS panel from LG.Philips and so are a little different to the Belinea / Viewsonic which both use AU Optronics' 8ms P-MVA panel. There isn't much discussion of the F-20 really as i suppose it is an aquired taste with its quite unique design. The Philips has received a lot of praise and is a well built screen with very few build quality issues reported. There's a review of the Acer ]here on THG which might help you too.

The Acer and the Philips offer pretty good performance but there is not much official review coverage of either, only first hand user experience from forums to support your decision. Viewing angles and colour accuracy are good thanks to the S-IPS panel, and perhaps have the edge over the P-MVA panel of the Viewsonic / Belinea models. However, black depth isn't quite as good and movie playback is also smoother on the P-MVA panel technology. All these are pretty good "all round" screens though tbh
