Speaking to an old friend this evening, it occurred to me that I’ve been a member of this forum for over 20 years now. I think I technically should have broken the china sometime earlier this year, maybe March. I don’t think I have been attached to anything other than my dwindling family (and maybe Sizzler, ho ho) for quite so long.

I still recognise a few of the old guard posting, but not as much as they used to. A bit like myself - life goes on.

So, with your sepia tinted wayfarers donned, what are your lasting memories from the early days of these forums?

I’ll throw a couple of references to some memories out to see if anyone remembers. My memory has mostly faded but I’m interested to see what can resurface.

  • The Nuke
  • Swansea “Welsh Wales” meets
  • The Broadband photoshops
  • Penis bleaching
 
Been a member here since 99, I like yourself remember the good old days and many of the old faces you just don't see around any more.

Back then it was all about SETI@home for me and the SETI part of the forum was my domain. Clocking the nuts out of my 650Mhz slot A Athlon using a dip switch adapter. My Juno P6 full tower case with two PSU's and two motherboards and three whole TB of data storage (currently have in the region of 60Tb available on my array). The SETI wars with Team Picard and the Hexus lot.

The splits from the old days parts of the forums became so much of a clique they actually seperated off to create their own forums only a couple of them left.

Hardware like the HD3780 ATI being a complete beast of a card and playing way too much Battlefield 2.

Oh and the porn girls of the shop website. It looks like the pages of a grot mag more than a technology giant!

That was the first two Swansea Jack Christmas Bashes - I know we did them for a few years but I don't have galleries for all the others. I think the final Swansea bash we did was in Birmingham :eek:

I wonder how many are still about - These are the ones who aren't banned and haven't changed their names.

Only been around since 2004 but I remember all.of those.

- I also remember the GTA(?) story about sleeping with a cougar / mate's mum.
- DiamondMark in motors
- Naked pics for Feek's birthdays
- Someone posting a thread titled 'Ladies, do I look attractive?' and getting absolutely torn apart

So many more that come to me sporadically but I can't think of right now.

I also seem to remember a picture of you dressed in as a leprechaun / green suit back in the day.

I'm still here although mostly lurk with the occasional post in the footy forum. 3 kids later, divorced and remarried.
 
I think I’ve checked the forum almost everyday since I first joined (which was pre the relaunch). A couple of breaks along the line where I drifted away from computers and then returned. The design of the forum will forever be ingrained in my brain.
 
Never went to a meet but was a member pre-nuke.

I remember those threads, plus the stuff @DanTheMan mentioned.

Which reminds me of some good times playing that free online version of Pictionary that I’ve completely forgotten the name of.
 
I remember Scuzi posting about his most embarrassing moment circa 2005 ish, and it involved needing an impromptu poo mid rabbit hunting with his Dad, and it going horribly wrong due to the fact that he fell into a farmers garden with his pants around his ankles and covered in the finest bum gravy. I was at work at the time browsing and nearly choked! :D

I wonder what happened to Gilly. I really miss him sometimes.
