£200-£300 on watch

Bug eyes! Looks pretty cool, I can see why people comment on it.

Christian Bale wears one in the epic film 'Equilibrium' which imho makes it super super kool :p

For that budget I'd avoid the fashion brands (CK, Armani, Storm, etc) these are just common pattern designs with a VERY cheap quartz movement, literally a couple of pound.

Instead I'd personally look at an automatic from either a Japanese or German manufactuar (although most of the cheaper german watches use a Japanese movement).

At the lower end of your budget I'd seriously consider something from the Seiko 5 range (almost hundreds to choose from).

Brands in that price range I'm keen on:- Seiko, Orient, Laco, Stowa, Christopher Ward.

nice man.. ive been looking at the seiko 5 range and there practically the same as the cks but cheaper so ill be getting one of those.. thanks

Consider Tissot as they make very nice watches in your budget. Your local Ernest Jones will probably stock them and give you 10% discount if you ask nicely.

but it's a watch?! i can never understand why people spend hundreds (sometimes thousands) on something that your coat/jumper covers up anyway :O who does it impress?!? i remember when the coolest watch was the one that had a calculator on it and you could control the TV!!!!!

*looks down at own wrist and smiles*

If you're perplexed by that wait till you want to get married, your head will explode when you find out how much people spend on a small gold ring with a diamond on it.

I bought an Armani watch for 80 pounds.

Like everyone says cheap movements yada yada. I just bought it because it fit well and looked good. Have had it for 8 years still going strong and still fits nicely.

They're not criticising the use of a cheap movement - they're usually pretty reliable. The criticism comes from the fact that it's EXACTLY the same watch as you can buy for substantially less, with EXACTLY the same internals i.e. the watch you have bought will last just as long as one for far less, becuase they're the same, so you could have saved a lot of money (a recent discussion has come up with regards Omega rubber straps in the big watch thread, but that's somewhat different as it's not necessarily exactly the same strap being sold for £100+ as the ones for £10).

If the brand Armani means anything to you, then go for it. But it's just an extremely el cheapo watch with a fashion brand name on it, that happens to put the price up.

The watch was probably made by Fossil.

Nice necro.

Part of me has always wanted a watch, but even whn I did wear one I woudl always look at my phone for the time instead.
Bought a few looky looky Omega ones (because James Bond is cool, right?) when I was in Thailand which didn't leave the country with me as they were absoluetly shocking rubbish quality (as expected).
