I'm putting together a full gaming PC for a friend and already have a lot of nearly new components i'm letting him have for a decent price.

The only parts I still need are a CPU, mobo and ram, possibly an aftermarket cooler depending on how good the stock heatsink is with the CPU.

Trouble is the budget only leaves about £200 left to spend, £202.01 to be exact. Total budget was £700 and the parts i'm letting him have for £500 are worth over £610.

What's the best combo of those 3/4 parts I can get for that price? It can be intel or AMD, it's his first ever gaming PC after tempting him away from 10+ years of console gaming.

What parts are you selling to him?

Case & PSU specifically?

£200 you're looking at a AMD 6300, Asus Board & 8GB 1600Mhz RAM.

£700 budget could squeeze in Haswell & a 270x/280, but depends what parts you have already sourced to them.

Everything else is taken care of, just need cpu/mobo/ram. the card i'm selling him included in the budget is a 280x Sapphire Vapor-X. The case is a bitfenix shinobi xl that I got as part of a pre-build. It's large but surplus to requirements for me. PSU is a standard 650w job.

Basically want to get him the best/most future proofed combo possible for the remaining £200. Overclocking is not a necessity at this point but if I can get an aftermarket cooler within the £200 that will offer a possible overclock, i'll take it.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99

1 x Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler £19.99

If you knock off the heatsink its under £200, but I would always get an aftermarket even if its a cheap one.

By standard do you mean a decent brand or is this a cheap PSU?

nDaar pretty much summed up what I mentioned before, not 100% sure that motherboard can handle overclocking as well, haven't seen any heatsinks for the VRM's so the CPU could throttle.

Going off the back of what HalfBaked said;

1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 280 Dual-X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £209.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £169.99
1 x MSI Z87-G43 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £92.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan ORANGE 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLAD38G2400HC11CDC01) £55.99
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L8 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply - With 120mm Silent Wing Fan Built in £55.99

Is a £700 build, I'd suggest the above over what you're trying to cram into £200 + your old parts.

Branded PSU, OCZ off the top of my head.

The parts are all less than 2 months old, so no junk or old tat.

OC isn't a necessity, just something i'll do if it's a possibility for him.

It's his first gaming rig and he's not expecting miracles.

He's a mate and would love to discount more but can't go robbing myself. :)

It's taken me over a year to convince him and I finally managed to do it by telling him he could pay me over a couple of months.
