The 970 is around 15% faster at best, and the cheapest on here is about £250. I'd say in terms of performance, no, it isn't worth spending another 20 - 25% :

Yes it's better to save extra rather than get a 780. for the same price as a low end 970 you can get a 390 which is faster and is 8GB..Roughly twice as fast as a 7950.

Id go for a 390 tbh over a 970 any day!

This is an amazing card for the price and youll find it hard for a 970 to beat it.

or new, 390 but not gigabyte.
