i currently have this setup

after thinking about getting a new cpu/mobo/ram bundle, i was advised to a new GC, which would you suggest for aprox 200 +-£20 thanks

Well, with that budget it's between a GTX 470 or a HD5850. Check out some benchmarks, they're very evenly matched. I have an xfx hd5850, and it's a fantastic card.

Jim, which can you clock further between the 470 and the 5850? Op, what mobo are you planning to get if you do get a new one, the majority are either Sli/XFire only depending on what mobo you get.

Spend around £100 to get an another 4890 to Crossfire, selling the E8600 (while it still worth something) and add that money to the remaining £100 to get a decent CPU cooler and 2nd hand Q9550 overclock it to 3.8~4.0GHz may be?

Take you pick, 5850 on TWO or for £30 more a 470. Either will serve you well both cracking cards.

Not sure, I have no hands-on experience of the new nvidia cards, I have only looked at reviews. The 5850's are overclocking beasts though.... especially if you mess with the voltage.

You can pick up a brand new 470 for £221 at the moment. I'm sure the extra £1 isn't going to break the bank.

1: They run cool. (mines 35C right now)
2: Low power draw.
3: Very easy to OC to 5870 performance levels.
4: Blazes through any games on the market today.

What is there to even think about?
