Building a rig for a friend of mine, he doesnt have much knowledge of pc's, he basically said here's £200 see what you can do!

What he's got

i5 760
MSI-G80
4 GB OCZ ram
XFX 850w psu
CM 690 II Adv

I guess my options are the 6870, 470 and the 460? There doesnt seem to be much between them from what i've seen, but whats the best?

He'll be playing Black ops most of the time

Thankyou.

Choice between the 6870 and the 470.

Performance is generally bang on the same.

6870 is cooler, power effiecient and quiet, plus will have eyefinity options.

470 Physx, 3d, some might argue better driver support.... however it will be louder and hotter (better overclcoking if your in to that from my understanding)
Plus in general the 400 series does tesselation better than ATI etc...

Although I like ATI, out of those two I would go 470.

But look at benchmarks, as there might be a game you play all the time, where one ofthe two cards does better in it...

ty, good info there, doubt he will be too fussed about the overclocking tbh

IMAO get the MSI GTX 470 and get it overclocked get a free performance boost for nothing, depending how far you OC the 470 its performance is very close to the 480...;)

470 = the dirty mongrel of the green factory.
Now we are starting to see what fermi was supposed to do from the start you would be a little silly to buy a 470. unless you are happy spending on something that was a hurried mess of a card. ATI 6 series or wait on nvidia.

What a load of codswallop!!!!

Defunkt, l take it you are speaking from experience with the 460, 470, 480? or just going off review's. The next generation of the fermi is bound to be an improvement naturally, when you have something constructive to say post it > imao.

You buy the 470 if it suits your needs. Do your homework, there's plenty of reviews etc, threads, posts on all the cards. At its current pricing the 470 is a very good buy, if the 6870 was £175 then I would suggest it would be the best buy. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest.:)

Yeh i agree in some ways, but i really doubt he'll be too bothered about that, just whether he can play BO at max.
