My old surround sound system has finally died and I've got £200 to spend on getting something else. Just looking for a system with tallboy speakers and the sub woofer, not interested in a dvd. I could go a bit above £200 if needs be. Anyone help me out?

Started to reply then realised this thread should really be in the MM forums, BUT, I don't believe you have enough posts to advertise there, sorry.

What on earth are you talking about? Why should it be in MM? He isnt selling anything, merely asking for advice on what he should buy next.

Thanks for sticking up for me ;) . The reply confused me and had me thinking I'd broken some forum rule or something. As you said, I'm only asking for advice on what I can buy for next. Perhaps someone has bought something lately?

for that sort of money I would be looking at an all in one system, I know you said you dont need a DVD, but amp / speakers and sub seperately would be quite hard to come by for £200.

He was probably offering to sell him something, but that has to be in MM. You're not allowed to offer things for sale anywhere else. It does also sort of look like a wanted thread, which could also go in MM. Would be a decent place to start once he has 100 posts.

Oh, and of course you can get a new stereo system for £200. 5.1 is more difficult, but still doable just. An all in one system would probably be the best bet by the sound of things. The only problem is that most have DVD players in them, but I'm sure you can shop around.

I would seriously look at second hand stuff if you want anything decent.

Thats exactly what happened, my bad I'm afraid. I started to post then realised what the op was after (advice, not to buy). Apologies offered.

Your argos catalogue (hope that's not breaking the rules) will have some all-in-one systems that don't have a DVD player (just 4 sats with stands, centre, sub with built-in amp and decoder), but don't expect high fidelity sound out of them. There's a wharfedale set for £180 maybe, might be a touch better than the 'ministry of sound' or 'acoustic solutions' stuff.

If you get a used budget AV receiver and either a used or new 5 speaker set (like that Eltax mentioned above) you could get that all for £200. Maybe get a sub a bit later.

Eltax speakers seem to be decent for the money, got some rather cheap from an electrical shop a while ago, no problems with them, not the best sound quality but decent for the price!
