Hi there,
would like to spend around £200 on an upgrade for my system.
Current specs are as follows:

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60Ghz

Gigabyte ga-78lmt-usb3

4GB DDR3 1600 RAM

MSI R9 270X 2GB

2 7200 RPM HDD's

EVGA 600B PSU

what should I get with about a £200 budget? or would spending £300 make a big difference?

I play quite a lot of DayZ, and would like this to run better, not sure whats bottlenecking, guessing either my HDD's or maybe my CPU? (i know is a pretty ****** engine, but i would love to be able to play it on nice high settings)

Anyway, let me know what you would buy with the budget :)

Thanks

Yes, I would consider intel, im not an AMD fan boy, I just bought it when i thought it was all about how many GHz your cpu ran at...
and with that mobo, looks like its got lots of slots for ram so i could put my old ram in as well?

Yes, you can add your current RAM and I've added another 4GB to bring you to 8GB - its preferred for gaming.

What is the RAM you have already?

my current ram is
TeamGroup Elite 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit,

cheap and horrible... but i dont know how much it will effect performance.

what generally gets better performance in games? amd or intel? and what has a better price to performance ratio?

It won't really affect the performance, you'll be fine with the RAM you have. The difference between AMD and Intel is down to your programs and games. Games prefer Intel as they're faster in single threaded situations. Well....to be fair, most if not all situations!

As for the performance difference, here is the bench on AnAnd Tech

Intel better performance, AMD better price/performance.

DayZ's better on Intel though by a decent margin through extended gameplay.

Frankly I'd want a new motherboard instead of that budget board you're using if I was sticking an FX83 in it.

Right ok, so it looks like I might be swapping out to intel then,
and my budget i guess is about £300-£350, if the extra money is worth spending,
i would rather have a much better system for £50 more if its going to dramatically improve performance

Day-Z is processor orientated (so I'm sure) so would definitely be worth getting that new mobo with the i5 4690k CPU - a very higly reviewed CPU across the board as far as tech reviews come. Don't think I've seen a bad review about it on multiple sites - review sites and retailers too.

Brilliant,

So for my budget that would be a good way to spend it?

You could flog your 4gb RAM and get this;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-SLI - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £252.58
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2133HC11ADC01) £65.99
1 x Raijintek EreBoss High Performance CPU Cooler Black £29.99
Total : £358.15 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Faster RAM and obviously only 2x4GB as a pose to what would be 4x2GB
Is probably more expensive though, so this is your choice

However - check what case you have? Cooler might not fit into it

I currently have an ATX case, so that should fit fine (have a micro atx board currently in it, but it doesnt take up all the space or use all the screw holes or anything.

Why waste money on buying RAM? He's already got some - speed isn't going to make that much of a difference.

SSD is must have those days. Just dont go for V300 as someone sugested...

Nothing wrong with them. They're fantastic choice at the price being sold right now.

A 970 with an FX41 lol.
DayZ will be hammering his CPU.

The FX4100 really is a poor CPU. I'd never buy one in 2011, let alone use it approaching 2015!
