Hi, I'm looking at buying parts for my first build. As the title says, I wish to keep the overall price for every component within £2000-2400. I have set such a high price as I wish to have a future proof, gaming and work build.

My list of parts as it stands:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail
CPU cooler: Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (torn between this and H100i)
Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV GENE Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard
RAM: (Not too sure on which RAM will be suitable)
Storage:
First hard disk-
Samsung 250GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic
Second hard disk-
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) HDD
GPU: (thinking GeForce GTX 780)
Soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCIE Sound Card
Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D ATX
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CX 750W Modular '80 Plus Bronze'
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
OS: MS WIN 7 Professional (64-bit)
Fans: (Not sure if I need any extras)

This comes to £2288 (without RAM and with average price of the 780)

Would be very appreciative for any feedback on the parts I have already picked out, and spaces that I don't know how to fill.

I do not need peripherals as I have already picked these out, however I am looking to replace my older of my 2 moniters with a:
LG 23EA63V Full HD 23" IPS LED Monitor @ £119
Looking to spend £130 max on a new monitor, which will not be included in the price of the PC, would be interested if I could get a better monitor in this price range.

Cheers. :)

I wouldn't recommend an 800D unless you plan on watercooling in the future, a 650D or 600T are more targeted towards air cooling. Plus it would look quite empty with an mATX board in :p

I also imagine getting a Micro ATX board would look kind of stupid in a big case such as the 800D. As for RAM Samsung Green gets recommend a lot, tt is reasonably priced and can overclock really well. In regards to CPU cooler, if your case fits one get a H100 as it is better than a H80.

Honestly, going x79 is not going to future proof your rig as tech & games are constantley developing. The current Haswell would be another option and I've had some fun with your budget:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor & Corsair H100i CPU Cooler Bundle with FREE Grid 2 PC Game £364.99
2 x MSI Geforce GTX 770 Gaming Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £344.99 (£689.98)
1 x Corsair Obsidian 800D Full Tower Case - Black £229.99
2 x Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD256BW) £189.95 (£379.90)
1 x Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2A2400C10R) £179.99
1 x Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI HERO Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £173.99
1 x XFX Pro 1000W Black Edition '80+ Platinum' Certified Modular Power Supply £143.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD2002FAEX) HDD £124.99
1 x Pioneer BDC-207DBK 8x BluRay ROM / DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (OEM) £49.99
Total : £2,358.02 (includes shipping : £16.85).

Case is big, but you could always sell the H100 and go for a WC setup which would look stunning in that case.

Yea like it was already stated, I would change out the motherboard, the cooler, case, ssd to the pro version and also the psu to a XFX or Seasonic.

EDIT: Awesome build above, still don't see the need for a 800d if your not watercooling. Could get some nice cases for half that price.

Was looking at the bigger cases for this reason, a bit down the line was thinking about going water cooling.
And yeah, I pasted the wrong motherboard there, was supposed to be:
Asus Rampage IV Extreme Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard
if that makes any differance at all.

This is very nice indeed and thank you for the help, however I have a few questions.
Would the Haswell chip be better even if I were to overclock the 3930k with the motherboard I stated above?
Would 2 770's be better than 1 780?
Would it be nesseccary to splash out on a 1000W PSU?

Sorry if these questions seem a bit stupid, still kinda a novice.
Even though the BLU-RAY drive would be nice, I would have no use for it, hence the cheap drive I put in the first post.

I will take a look at this RAM thanks!

You should buy 1 780 instead. I have never liked going SLI at the beginning but that's my personal opinion. Spend the rest on some braided cables or lighting.
Good choice Snip

Just been doing some research and according to "techtomorrow" on youtube 2 SLI 770s out-preform a singular titan in certain aspects. But I will look around some more before I jump into buying a GPU.

Thanks for the feedback. :) Whilst I am sure 2 SLI 780s would be super fun, having to sacrifice the I7 would be a killer for me due to the nature of the work I will be doing on this PC.

Also, which fans would be ideal to fit into a Corsair 800D case, until I go water cooled?

Cheers

The Titan is a great GPU, but it's strength is when it's setup in 2/3way SLI. It outperforms most Dual/tri-SLI rigs.

For fans, look at the Corsair AF range, as per Ether's post.

What would you need the i7 for ??? you could always drop it to a single GTX780 get the i7 and have money left over without the h100i for a custom loop :)

I would say the Corsair fan specced above would be ideal.

Would love to go 2 way SLI titan if I had extra in my budget.

I need the I7 for rendering multiple animations/videos/game environments at the same time.
Think I will stick with the 2 way SLI 770s for now and go water cooling next summer when I have extra time to build it.

Thanks for the fan recommendation :)

As its for these maybe a workstation build would be better for you but would cost a mint ..... and the current Xeon range isn't really ideal for gaming.

If that is what you're using the PC for, I would read reviews and find out what would be best for the animation. 2x770 or single 780. At least you wouldn't be disappointed if you wanted a 2nd 780 later on.

Yeah, got these at uni which I use. I want a pc for home which will be good enough for a few, if not all of these and for gaming.

Yeah good point, I'll look into it. Thanks for all the help :)
