should i buy this?

Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit

or stick with my
Dominator gt 2000 6gb?

cheers

It's triple channel, so you should have enough bandwidth with 1600MHz, and CAS 9 is about as low as the memory controller can take at that speed.

Unless you are running your dominator at CAS 11 or less then there will be no increase in latency (1600MHz CAS 9 is the same latency as a theoretical 2000MHz CAS 11.5). If the dominator is running at CAS 12, you'll actually see a decrease in access latency (you would only notice it in a micro benchmark though).

I'd say 6G is just enough at the moment, but 12G gives you more headroom.

BTW is your 920 a D0? If so you should be able to get at least 3.8GHz out of it, if not, then at least 3.6.

yes it is a D0, i dont really overclock it as dont have the time to use it a lot, i was thinking mainly of extending the life of the set up, as i imagine triple channel is dead

id stick with the ram you have, you wont run 12gb much faster than 1600mhz anyway on x58,not without using a HUGE amount of qpi/vtt voltage

you could go dual channel and 8gb? which is plenty ram for gaming ect

I wouldn't stick with it, it will cost very little to go 12gb after selling your old ram.

Next gen consoles come with 8gb as standard, I think we will see an increase in ram usage.

One thing is for sure... ram is going up massively in price at the moment, in 6 to 12 months time you could be paying double for the same amount of ram..
