Hey all,

After lurking as a guest for a long time, I've took the plunge and joined, I would also love some help.
My last machine died, either old age (6yrs old) or heat ... probably heat as the GPU metal was discolored.

I've always been a fan of intel with nvidia and don't fancy switching, I'd also like water cooling to prevent overheating again, my man cave is really just a large cupboard with no windows.

Is it possible to have the following :

i7-8086K 4.00GHz or i7-8700K 3.7GHz (OC'ed, yay or nay ?)
GTX 1080Ti, a decent brand
32GB DDR4 @3000mhz, ideally Corsair as i've never had issues with Corsair
CPU and GPU water cooler
1TB branded SSD
2TB branded HDD
DVD/CD Optical drive
Branded PSU, again Corsair would be my go to choice
Fans only if helpful, if the water cooling is enough then skip the fans
Built and shipped
2yr min warranty for parts and labour
Operating system would be nice so it's pre-installed but keys are cheap enough these days.

What I don't have any preferences on is the following :

Mobo, it just has to support the above, I have no need for wi-fi and turbo 1 second boot times etc
Case, I don't want/like it lit up like a Christmas tree, nobody but me will see it and looks are irrelevant, it just needs to do the job

Is this possible ? many thanks in advance :)

Richie

Hi welcome :)

Is your budget just for the tower ? If so what monitor do you plan on using ?

So I take it you want a pre-built system ?

Is this a gaming pc ? Any other usage such as video editing/rendering or twitch streaming etc ?

I think you are on the right track. I personally would go with the 8700K over the Anniversary cpu.

Hi Lee32UK and thanks for the reply.

1 - Yes just the tower, I have a 24inch Acer (1080) monitor that's only a couple of years old, along with my keyboard and mouse.
2 - Yes pre-built, just for ease.
3 - 50% gaming, the rest for Unreal Engine developement and modding of other games.
4 - The 8700k was my first thought but the 4.0 GHz Vs 3.7 GHz made me think, OC'ing worth doing ?

If this is possible could I email Overclockers and have them invoice or do i have to pick the parts ? any and all suggestions welcomed.

A 1080 ti is somewhat overpowered for a 1080p monitor. If you are planning on sticking with it then a GTX 1070/1070 ti would easily be good enough.

I personally don't think the 8086K is worth the extra cash. As long as you have a good cooler then the 8700K can get pretty close to it.

You should be able to ask ocuk to build you something if none of the pre-builds are to your liking.

Here is a build with a GTX 1070 to give you an idea.

Obviously you might want a different case than the one I selected. None of the Blue LED's on the Ram or board should be visible though, with it being a non windowed case.

If you want a Corsair psu then just swap the Bitfenix out for something like the Corsair TXM or RMx.

Thanks for the reply, I don't want to compromise on the CPU,GPU and ram, plus I have £2,000 to spend, any change would be stolen by Mrs Richie.
I emailed Overclockers so hopefully they can put something together.

Ah right ok :) You should be able to squeeze a 1080 ti into the budget then if you change a couple of bits around, maybe a slightly cheaper case/cooler and board and 500GB SSD instead of the 1TB etc.

Different thinking again .
B360 board + i7 8086k + 32gb (don't actually need that much but hey)

Enable M.C.E , sync all cores and might get 5ghz all cores . Might have to lower voltage a tad as they over supply a little but takes less volts the 8700k . Or just leave at stock and would still be a fast chip

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,026.05 (includes shipping: £13.20)

8700k and MCE would lower price , allow z370 board . Would recommend

We all would sure like to get that "future proofness" for paying price of high end parts...
But anyone having hobbyed PCs for decades knows that times when paying for luxury actually gives proper high performance extra years for the price are exceptions.
Most of the PC's parts are simply bad for holding performance/use value.

Heck, for example CPUs are now going to see more development in next few years than in earlier part of the decade.
Even if Intel keeps stumbling AMD has development cycle moving forward.

Doesn't help the fact companies like Nvidia lock in tech to their hardware such as next gen featuring V-ray rendering where as other go software wise

2021 should be interesting to see from AMD , PCIe 4 and DDR5 . X*70 boards going to look like thread ripper boards haha
