Hey all, got some friends with a 2k budget, and while I have some ideas in mind, I would llike some other specs please!

It MUST:

Have a quad core CPU
Be able to run Maya 3D Modeling well + Have graphics card compatible with it, that is also capable of running games.
Incude Dual monitor set up

Thanks all :D

P.S As its someone buying it for them, they wish to hit the 2k mark, not go above, and not go below, but max out there pc... Not what I would do, but meh,

Will they be overclocking?

Also what size monitors are they looking at?
Im not sure yet, will ask them later, but as they dont know how to build a computer, and im doing it for them, im guessing no....

Also 20 - 22"

Hows this:

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk
Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFP 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey X2
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music 7.1 Soundcard - OEM
Western Digital Caviar SE16 400GB 4000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache X2
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU

Total : £1,868.03

At stock that system is plenty fast enough but if they would like the extra performance out of it, theirs a lot of overclocking potential their as well.

Ive put in Vista since i have put in 4GB of Memory for you. If they are not sure about Vista yet, you could always set up a dual boot configuration for them, XP on one Hard drive and Vista on the other. Great way to experience Vista but if you do have any problems you can still use XP. :)

Well...first post on here, and indeed first actual attempt at making a 2k pc spec.

I had no idea how hard it would be ! lol All the kind of parts id buy tend to be more value for money, so i found most my time trying to add expense!

This is mainly my interpretation of what other people have advised over the time ive been browsing these forums.
See what you think :

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk
Belinea 2230S1W Pro 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black/Silver x 2
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM x2
Western Digital Caviar SE16 400GB 4000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black)
EVGA nForce 680i SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (122-CK-NF68-A1)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)

Total : £2,016.09 including p&p

(ps, advice on format of pasting in spec would be useful)

Ive chosen 64bit vista because i think it will probably be more future proof, and graphics design based programs will probably be the programs more likely to take advantage of it, vista for 4gb ram.

Nothing like keyboards and other peripherals included though...not sure if there needed ?

£26 over. Don't know the situation, but i'm sure they can just add £26 ?

Just overclok that q6600 to 3ghz for them, should be easy.
Anyway, i think that is as good as youl get. Small changes can be made, such as different RAM, graphics, monitors. But in general that is what you should aim for, IMO.

EDIT : i guess you all use photoshop for the screen shots ?

For one thing definitely whatever you do get s-ips panel monitors ( the dell 2*07wfp series or a viewsonic model i cannot for the life of me rememeber :/ )

Ah well here goes!

Case - Antec P182 £82.24
Power supply - Enermax Infiniti 650w £111.61
Motherboard - Abit IP35 Pro £123.36
Processor - Intel Q6600 £176.24
Ram - 8GB of OCUK ddr2-5300 (2 of their 4gb kits) £140.98
Hard-drive - Samsung Spinpoint T 500gb £66.96
Graphics Card - EVGA 8800gtx 768mb £370.11
Optical Drive - Samsung 20x dvd burner £19.96 + Akasa sata2 45cm cable £4.69
Operating system - Vista home premium 32-bit £64.61
Keyboard - Logitech DiNovo Edge £111.61
Mouse - Logitech MX Revolution £52.86

That lot comes to a total of £1340.46 including next-day delivery, which leaves roughly £650 for the monitors. *Excuse me for being blind and not seeing the dual-monitor request in the first post. The eizo would be deeply unsuitable.

I certainly wouldn't waste my money on one of them screens to tell you the truth.

They are like £800.

Yeh, you pay a lot for an extra 2inches at the moment *resists urge for dirty pun*

£692 inc vat on suggested site, but seing as hes requested dual monitors, might not quite be in the budget lol
Nice looking screen mind.

5GB of ram will be completely lost on a 32bit operating system and tbh 8Gb is overkill as well as being cheap non brand ram plus the OP clearly stated dual monitors.

Ps. The moderators will take you up on naming competitors, they are pretty strict whether or not the catalogue range is different.

OK well can you change your quote since I've edited it.

I guess 64-bit vista then to take advantage of all the ram? Surely 3d-modelling is one of the few things that would enjoy as much ram as you can throw at it?

edit - I have to admit your spec is rather sexy SS-89. When I first saw it I thought "That's the kind of thing I'd want to end up with if I was spending that kind of money".

personally, i think hed be better off buying a TV card for his pc, and buying better screens. Seeing as theres no mention of it actually being freeview ready, iyou may have to have a freeview box for it in the future.

Does look ok though, and if he has an xbox or something it might be good (just be aware of the review saying it skews the resolution somewhat).

Why not get 1 30" screen rather than two smaller ones? Makes the whole desk setup a lot neater and the big screen is a wonder to work with and play games on.

Yes, but when programing/graphics designing etc 2 monitors are better

Just found out that yes they will be overclocking, so need a spec with hardware that will allow this please :D
