2000mhz or 1600mhz for 3d work and other general tasks?

Yep, basically the question in the thread's title - Is it worth getting the OCZ 2000mhz 6gb set:

I wasn't even going to consider the 2000mhz kit but after seeing the price of DDR3 these days dropping by so much is it worth the extra 20 pounds for 3D work and rendering/encoding?

The only thing thats really making me doubt this is the CAS latency on the OCZ being 10-10-10-20 against the viper's 8-8-8-24. But then RAM isn't really an area where I'm too knowledgable

Just to note, the Biostar TPower X58 does have memory issues, hopefully a miracle will happen & we'll find the holy grail i.e. Biostar will fix in bios update.

My OCZ 3x2GB Platinums rated at 7-7-7-24 @ 1600mhz will not run at those speeds regardless of stock or overclock, it will run at 8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz or 6-6-6-24 @ 1200mhz no problem at 4ghz.

I did try dropping the timings down to 9-9-9-24 & increasing the memory overclock to 1800mhz to no avail.

I don't think its the ram or my bios settings as I've had a good play, will prove my theory when I get this Gigabyte EX58-UD5 on the go.

I've also read about this problem with the biostar's. Have you seen this over on the rebels haven forums?

by that calculation
cl8 @ 1600mhz is identical time latency to cl10 @ 2000mhz, so it makes no ends.

at cas8 and 1600mhz ddr (800mhz single rate)

8 cycles / 1.6x10^9 = 5ns latency = 10ns if you consider single data rate speed

So at cas10 and 2GHz ddr (1Ghz single rate)

10 / 2x10^9 = 5ns = 10 if you consider single data rate

So would I maybe be better off just getting 6gb of 1333mhz RAM with low latency?
