I bought a 2002 Renault Clio 1.2 Extreme Last week on the 6th March, 50k Miles and seemed in very good condition when I got it. The place I got it from is a reasonable sized used car centre, so it's not just a guy in a little shed with a load of cars.

The first problem I had was the car would not start as the immobiliser didn't seem to recognise the key and took a good few attempts to start the car. I put this down to a little niggle and maybe £100 for a new key that I could get sorted later down the line...

However last night the car suddenly decides it doesn't want its coolant and it starts to overheat, luckily I was about 60 seconds from my house so I got home before it died. Took it to my friends garage today and found the leak, no big deal but it looks like the head gasket has gone / is on its way out.

SOOOOO...

I took it back today, the guy I spoke to in the garage says he will have a look at it and ring me tomorrow, but he mentioned that if the HG has gone then it is probably my doing as I let the car over heat..

Is it likely to be my fault? What should I be expecting them to do about it?

He might have a point - once a car begins to overheat you must shut the engine down immediatley, as continuing to run the car can result in you doing serious damage to the car.

Did you tell the dealer that you contiuned to drive the overheating car? If so, Major Fail on that one!

Was a separate coolant leak found separate from the "Head Gasket" issue found?

Yeah coolant is coming from somewhere else. Not sure exactly were though. It's not just a pipe though.
