Hi all,
As title really. Triggers every now and again and pops boot lid up when driving as intermittent fault apparently.

I've seen it can be caused by the ECU? Is this the case?

I've suggested getting lock looked at and maybe replaced by one from a breakers or it could be the wiring that comes into the boot lid from roof of car is broken?

If it is an ECU problem put up with it until she replaces the car? Another option was to unplug the boot lid lock and keep lid shut but she can't use the boot then? There is no key lock to use it manually so it all works off the central locking.

99% sure it's what you already suspect: wiring going into the boot on the hinge.

Had the same thing with a Ford focus, pulled back the waterproof covering and and the bootlock wires had broken due to fatigue.

We have a micra and had the same issue you describe.

Cost me £1.50 to fix and a few hours of my time.

I followed this https://youtu.be/jw0J3g33EHI

It’s caused by water ingresss into the button. A common design fault on these.

With ours it started like yours at first opening by itself and eventually it stopped working all together. So had no access to the boot for a while.

I fixed ours by following that video last winter and it’s still going strong.

I also used clear silicone all around that area to stop it from happening again

Cheers all. I've passed the video on to her to show what I was saying about as it was covered up so reluctant to undo it in case it was snapped wires and stops her driving.
