Been doing the fill the tank test over the last week or so ive covered 300 miles and with town driving and a 160 mile trip with mainly motorway driving my mpg appears to be only around 32 mpg. Is this normal? I was expecting a bit more tbh.

Is that the MK1.5? I used to own a 1999 MK1 1.6 which did pretty much 39-40MPG all the time with mixed driving, so it does sound quite low.

Sounds quite normal to me. My Mums 2008 plate Toyota Auris 1.6 (Supposedly an EcoGreen) car does 35MPG max around town a mixture of short motorway journeys.

It just made me wonder as according to the specs I should be getting that sort of mpg on a urban run and 40s combined.

I suppose the colder weather could be a contributing factor. I don't think I'm very heavy footed. Although I did catch myself doing close to 80 down the motorway.

2001 1.6 focus here, I get about 390-405 miles per tank of fuel, 300 miles of that is motorway miles @ around 80 mph...don't know if that info helps you or not.

That's not very good for "Eco green", my Yaris 1.8 gets 38.23mpg according to road trip. I've been keeping tap since I got it 8 months ago and lowest was 35.76 (once), highest was 42.65. Most are around 38/39mpg mark, I normally do 250-300 miles between fills.

The 1.6 is pretty low geared, so at 80mph, the engine's working pretty hard.

Don't see how you can do the fill the tank test if you've only covered 160 miles.

Also if you're measuring motorway only, you need to stick to motorway only. Mixing it town driving will just bring the overall mpg down.

I'd be interested to know what people get out of their 2002-ish 1.25 Fiestas, mine seems low too.

My average since I got my mk1 focus 1.6 is 33.10 mpg over 2200 miles. Approx 80% of that is town driving of a 3 mile journey to work. Being that the mk2 is a heavier car I'd say 30-35 average would probably be about right. 32mpg from mostly motorway driving does sound low though.

I'll echo what Amleto said: My 58 focus 1.6 does around 40+ mpg at around 70. I'm not sure if the 1.6 engines are different though in the 05 and 58 model?

i said 160 mile trip not the tank test. currrently done 300 miles on the tank prob maybe another 20 left.

I find I drop below 30mpg on the motorway at 80, if I stick to 70 then it goes up to 35mpg if that gives you an idea.

tbh i think thats why. coupled with the fact that virtually all the short trips we do the car never really has a chance to warm up.

managed to get 310 miles b4 i just filled up again. will see what happens on the next run.
