2007WFP gone PVA

yep, that has been reported in only one case that i've seen so far. Might be an indication Dell are widely using different panels in the 2007WFP as well as the 2007FP, but may just be a temporary measure due to panel shortage. For information, the panel is a Samsung S-PVA 20"WS:

PVA is in the middle, both are much better than TN though :)

PVA has slightly lower viewing angles and slightly less vibrant colour.

I'm hoping my 2007WFP that come son tuesday has IPS not PVA - hopefully it is IPS since it's coming from Dell direct !

I think it's unfair to say that S-IPS is much better than S-PVA really. The S-IPS version should have slightly wider viewing angles than the S-PVA version, but not by much. The S-PVA technology does suffer from some slight contrast shift at slight angles, it's hard to explain but some users notice this and is due to pixel alignment in the Patterned Vertical Alignment structure. IPS is known to offer accurate colours, but S-PVA still offers very good colour reproduction and accuracy. S-PVA should offer a deeper black depth however since this is one area is is superior to S-IPS, and response time could possibly be better on the S-PVA version since their overdrive (Samsung MagicSpeed) has been used more widely and for a longer period of time than LG.Philips ODC (Overdrive Circuitry). This is just speculation as we haven't seen much of the S-PVA version but these are some possible difference I would expect if you compared them side by side.

However, all of this would imo only really be apparent to an experienced user or someone who can compare a lot of TFT's side by side. To an average user I doubt you would really be able to tell any real difference between the two.

That's true, I've only ever used the NEC GX and that's in a league of its own (well uless you watch movies on it because movies are not so great on it!)

I've only ever had TN panels, albeit good ones so S-PVA or IPS whichever Dell send me will still be much better than what I have owned before so will be happy all round.

I didn't mean it in the sense that PVA is bad, just meant IPS is often regarded as better for colour/accuracy.

S-PVA and IPS certainly offers advantages over TN Film that's for sure :) Just pointing out the above really as I've seen a lot of people jump to hasty conclusions and jump on a bandwagon about which is best.

I found a link to a site-http://www.flatpanels.dk/panels.php

Dell 2007fp has a 20 inch 16 ms S-IPS (LG.Philips LM201U04) eller et 8 ms (g2g) S-PVA (Samsung LTM201U1) panel.

you can search for what panel your monitor/tv has

You can press a few button combinations on the 2007WFP which tells you what panel it has - something like turn the monitor off, hold down menu and "+" together, whilst still holding those buttons press the power on button, then let go and press "-" I think.

For 2xx7 range Dell screens:

1- Turn off your screen
2- Press simultaneously the 'Menu' and '+' button of the screen.
3- While holding the 2 buttons, press now the 'Power' button.
4- Once the screen in ON, unpress the 3 buttons.
5- Just press '-' button.
