Hey,

I'm either buying an 2007WFP (£256) or 2407WFP (£415-425) on Monday (both A04 revisions) but since I'm unable to test either I'm unsure which to get.

The 2407WFP (£415) is my absolute limit (okay, it's probably over my limit but nevermind), I have "unsure-bits" about both though... (it's going to be paired with a 19" non-ws)

It'll be used for Gaming, Programming (VS), 3Ds Max/Maya but also web development so it needs to be reasonably accurate with colours, maybe have a XBOX360 linked up too within the next few months. I *think* I've picked up some pros/cons from various places but I'm wondering if anyone with any experience with one or both could correct or confirm them...

2407WFP:
Pros:
* Can do native 1080p so would be better for XBOX360
Cons:
* Uses S-PVA so has less accurate colours and worse viewing angles than the 2007WFP
* The 2407WFP-HC might be coming out soon and I'd be gutted if I bought this just before that was released here.
* To play games at native resolution I'd need to constantly be upgrading graphics cards (I'm getting either a 8800 GTS or GTX for this PC soon, at the moment I'm stuck on a 6200 256MB TC that can't even play most games at 640x480, heh)

2007WFP:
Pros:
* S-IPS Supposedly better viewing angles and colour reproduction compared to the 2407WFP
Cons:
* Even smaller than my 19" WS in height

Which would/did you go for? Reasons, Do you have your own Pros/Cons? And would you wait for the 2407WFP-HC since it seems to be out everywhere else apart from the UK, when's it coming here?

I'd appreciate any opinions,

Thanks!

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention, screen tearing in games drives me crazy and I saw somebody mention the 2407WFP tears a LOT in XBOX360 games, has anyone experienced this?

You will get tearing on any screen if the output from the device (whether that's a PC or a game console) and the displays redraw aren't in sync (same thing as having v-sync off in a PC game). The 360 has tearing on games that don't use v-sync, it's just a fact of life. All LCDs work at 60 Hz internally so I can't see any reason why you would see more tearing on one LCD than another. You might notice it a tiny bit more on a bigger screen maybe.

Couple of other things, if you're talking games rather than movies, most 360 games render at 720p and are then scaled to 1080p, very few render in 1080p. PVA has good viewing angles and colour reproduction, maybe a little worse than IPS, but still very good and they're still considered premium panels. Viewing angles on IPS aren't quite as wide as you might have read about because of the purple/orange tint effect, especially on dark colours. On the other hand though PVA has the little talked about acute viewing angle problem where you can lose a certain amount of detail on certain colours just by moving your head a little.

If you have a good reason for wanting the 2407WFP-HC then you should wait for it, although it's going to cost more I would imagine.

Yeah I realise why/how every screen gets tearing, it was just I saw somebody say "The Dell 2407WFP has tearing problems with the 360, I hooked it up to my 40" samsung HDTV and it was minimal again"... or something similar to that.

So basically, Panel wise they both have pros/cons and it doesn't really matter?

I might wait a little bit to see if the 2407WFP-HC comes out over here because if I'm going to pay that sort of money (£400+) I may-aswell pay a little extra to get the better one... or just go for the 2007WFP now, I'm still undecided.

Since it's for web design/graphics too I'm not sure if the 2407WFP-HC is likely to make a big difference.

Still undecided! :(

Thanks for the reply though!

2407 bar non, dont just look at specs -as such- iv seen both and the 2407 is vastly superior, and is what I have now, I use it for my main PC and xbox 360, its awesome, get it, you wont be disapointed :)

Did you decide yet? I'm in exactly the same position, and the only thing keeping me from the 2007WFP is the vertical height being less than my 19" non-ws I have now. :(

If you can afford it, then go for the 24".

I have 2 2007WFPs and also use one of them for my 360 - it's just as good if not better in terms of quality than the Samsung HDTV I used to have.

If you really need the extra 4" then go for it, if you can afford the graphics upgrade then go for it, however I think you'd have to upgrade much more often to play some of the up and coming games at native resolution.

If I were only using one display then I'd obviously push for the 24" (I use my displays for music production) and for the work you describe I can imagine one large display being very useful. The quality difference between both panels will be minimal in my opinion, so I think it unltimately comes down to cost.

Yeah, I went for the 24" because I managed to get the 2407WFP-HC I almost ordered the 20" but the 'HC' bit swayed it for me. (and the 24" had a dead-pixel warranty)
