Morning,

I'm not sure how to describe it or the word for it but every now and Isee the lines scrolling down my monitor and sort of shimmering? It is almost like the old VHS when you had it on pause but not that extreme.

Most of the time it is not noticable but sometimes it is.

Any ideas what this is and if I should be concerned?

It shouldn't be doing that, or at least mine doesn't. Could check all the cables are in tightly and if you're using VGA it might be worth switching to DVI since VGA is more susceptible to interference.

It depends how noticeable this effect is. I mean mine does have a very subtle sort of 'shimmer' on some colours, for instance the background colour on this forum. It kinda looks like very fine noise. That's actually the AR coating scattering the light. Some people describe it as seeing 'pink dots'.

There's also another effect where on certain grey colours, the screen seems to flicker slightly. Never figured out what causes that but it doesn't really bother me.

Last thing I can think of - always use the screen in desktop mode, since gaming/multimedia modes introduce banding and on-the-fly contrast adjustment, which looks nasty.

K thanks.

I use Desktop mode, all factory settings really just with brightness down slightly and also use DVI to DVI.

It is not noticable most of the time but sometimes it can be annoying. For example if i minimise this screen i will get it then.

So it's neither of those two effects I describe then? Sounds like it could be a fault, but it's odd that it only occurs at certain times. Something that happens when you minimize a window sounds like a PC problem rather than monitor. As far as the monitor is concerned it doesn't know you've minimized a window. Could be something like old video card drivers not having full support for 1680*1050, could try updating them.

Just searching through my order history from where i got my GFX card it is this:
Club 3D nVidia GeForce 6600 256MB DDR TV-OUT/DVI (PCI-E)

(I don't play games etc so no laughing at the card!). As far as i know all my drivers are up to date a is i recently updated all drivers.

All I can think is try the monitor on another PC. If you get the problem there as well then you could have a faulty monitor.

Don't suppose you can capture the effect on a photo and post it here?

Do you get it when picking up a window and dragging it? The tearing, which I think is just a 60hz issue gives that kind of flickering effect. I have noticed it myself coming from a CRT but doesn't bother me much. I also see the pulsing / flickering on certain grey / dark bluey colours, but again i don't find it a huge issue.

I think this must have been a fault.
I rang tech support, did the tests, just explained it was annoying me slightly and they sent a new one out.

Hardly been on it since for the past 2weeks but it seems to be loads better but i can still see it slightly but not the point of annoying me now.

Guess it was a faulty one then?
