Hi,

I am looking for a new monitor and was set on getting the dell with the new price drop but now I am going through the "If I spent an extra £100 I could get" phase so I am looking for some confirmation basically after doing lots of ready I can see the following

Dell 2007wfp
20"
£285 - good price
decent lag (looks similar to 8ms)
banding issue (A02 improved)
HDCP via DVI
DVI/svideo/Analogue
3 year warranty

NEC LCD20WGX2
20"
£285 - online auction
gloss finish - good colour in dark but bad if in light area
really fast display
No HDCP - is this a problem (will I be sorry in 12 months?)
Only DVI/anaolog
No height adjustment
3 year warranty

Samsung 215TW
21"
£390
8ms response time
DVI/Composite/Analogue/svideo
HDCP ready
Sounds like US versions have had some quality issues (verticle yellow line , X)
Only Silver in the UK ?
3 year warranty

Ok, Have I missed anything. I was sold on the Dell but the Samsung does seem like a better display on paper. Some reviews have been a bit luke warm. Is the Samsung worth the extra £100 ?

Any idea's, suggestions would be apppreciated.

Thanks
Simon

This question (or a variation of it) has been answered before.

If you do forum Search with keywords, I think you'll find quite a lot of threads.

In a nutshell:-

- If they were all the same price, I would suggest the Samsung.
- If you can get the Dell and the NEC for the same price, I would suggest getting the NEC BUT ONLY if you are sure you can live with the glossy screen (go into PC World / Currys etc and see if it will drive you nuts).
- If gaming is your main priority, go with the NEC but only if you can live with the glossy screen.
- Personally, I wouldn't want to buy anything expensive from eBay.
- Are you really planning to buy and watch a lot of HDCP content on your monitor? None of those monitors properly support 1080p anyway. Your current graphics card dosen't support HDCP. Are you really planning to plug a HD/Blu-Ray player into a (small) 20" monitor to watch films?

They're all decent monitors. You'll won't be disappointed with any of them.

The NEC is fantastic. The Dell and the VS2025 leave a lot to be desired in comparison.

It's a tough one between the inputs on the 215 and the quality of the NEC. I currently have the NEC but will be buying a component compatable monitor/screen when the Wii comes out.

Thought we're not supposed to mention competitors on this forum?

I have the NEC and it's the n*tts!!!! ;)

We're not allowed to mention competitors - it's just extremely difficult to mention the make "Dell" without at the same time mentioning a competitor.

I meant the ref to *bay as I mentioned it before here and got slapped wrists....lol

nevermind!

For what its worth
heres my recent comments on the 215

btw hdcp is not just for 1080p.
Its upto the movie studios if they implement it which hasnt been happening thus far on HD-DVDs as far as im aware the toshiba X1 in USA allows HD via its component. Dont though discount the fact the within 2 years we could have broadband hidef services and these might employ hdcp so having it will be usefull.

HD-DVD and Bluray movies could be outputed in @ 720p, they not have to be in 1080i/1080p. 1080i isnt supported on the 215 as i tested via X360.
