I had a diesel 6 and then moved to the petrol 6 before I sold it last year. The diesels around that time suffer from dpf issues. I recommend you read up on it before you purchase. The petrol was rock solid for me, I only had to have it serviced yearly which was good.
I use a 2.0 Diesel Mazda 6 Estate for work as Pool Car. The thing takes so much abuse and just puts up with it, nothing stands out, but relatively comfy for what it is and seems to do about 40mpg no matter what driving you do in it.
