Who fancies visiting Nurburgring in 2008?

I'm thinking a week off work, and road trip in the Alpina with a friend or two!

When is best time to visit? what hotels do you recommend staying in? Best route?

Thought the Alpina was being sold?

Decided to keep it for now, well after driving it again for the first time in a fortnight,.

I'm going next Easter. Lots of good hotels littered around - take a look at www.nurburgring.org for some ideas. Easter bank holiday will be super busy, but that's part of the experience. Go later if you want a lot of time on the track. A week there might be a bit long as you'll put a lot of wear on the car, make plans for visiting nearby attractions such as Frankfurt and Koln.

Any satnav will plot a decent route - it's all motorway (and of course Autobahn ;)) there.

I did write ups of my first two trips if you're interested:

I'm planning on doing this next year too, I was originally planning to do it this year but as I haven't even got a decent car yet (and I think it'd be a good idea to get some simpler track experience beforehand) I think that's a touch optimistic.

Actually, that brings me to something. If someone has no prior experience of track racing, what would be the best way to learn some things and prepare to make the most out of the green hell experience?

Even a heap of junk will be fun round the Ring. My first track experience was at the Ring. If you can afford it, I'd suggest doing a track day at a UK track first, but if you don't get round to it, it won't be a problem. Definitely worth learning the track on GT4/Forza 2 before going though - it's a tough track to drive, can imagine it's even tougher if you don't have any idea of what the next corner will be like.

Ah cool, I think it'd be better to try some tamer sort of racing first, but then a false security could set in... anyway. Just looked through your linked photos from that other forum, fantastic stuff!

And yeah, i'm a big fan of forza 2 and have gone around the 'ring on it with many different cars, so i know it reasonably well. Having said that i'm struggling to place exactly where Adenauer Forst is, from those photos, as there's a couple S bends it reminds me of. i'm slightly confident it's near the start... anyway no big.

me, very much but no cash. I've got to repair my brakes and tyres from Cadwell Park and look in to getting a seperate set of wheels with track tyres before seriously contemplating a Nurburg visit agian.

I'm doing the Student Brakeaway later in the year which will probably involve a fly-by visit to the 'ring. It's only going to be open for 2 hours on the day we're going though which sucks. Looking forward to it nonetheless!

I'm not going booooo!

Sold the Alpina, Sold the Cerbera, Z3M is nearly sold.

And I don't think my boss would appreciate an 08 MB E Class being taken around the ring!

Good excuse, alternatively you could use one of the following:

- It's too far away, I've never left England except for that schooltrip to Normandie - that was scary.
- It's too scary, I might die.
- My gf is pregnant.
- The cat is dying.
- Grannie has a cold.
- Oh ****, my policy says I'm not covered on the Nurburgring.
- I don't speak German.
- I don't speak French either.
- They drive on the right, but my car is RHD.
- McDonalds isn't quite the same on the continent.
- I hear you need a first aid kit, triangle and spare bulb set - I can't afford those.
- I would, but I'd rather go next year when I have a faster car.
- I hear that Spa is better anyway, I'm well going there instead.
- My car wouldn't make it, it has a bit a of a rattle and I hear that there are no mechanics in Germany.
- I wet the bed and don't want my mates, who I'd be sharing a room with, know.
- They're all ******* nazis over there.
- It's too busy, it'd be rubbish actually driving on a track with other people.
- I'm incompetent on the road, would crash and hear that repairs to the track are expensive.
- It might rain, you can't drive on a track if it rains.
- My girlfriend has me on a leash, but I do wear the trousers really.
- My girlfriend wants to go to Florida/Aiya Napa, I can't afford to.
- I only want the sticker, and they're £3.99 on eBay - that's cheaper than the shop at the track!

...rather than being one of the many 'I'll *definitely* go next year' types.
