Thinking about upgrading my PC I built in 2008. Is it a good time?

Got top motherboards CPU/RAM ect in 2008. Got £600-700 to spend this year. I won't get top notch stuff again (would love a Rampage III) but will it be worth upgrading?

My old PC:
Intel Q9450 @3.2
Rampage Formula
GTX 9800
4GB Dominator RAM

New spec:
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
6870 ATI
OCZ Gold Low Voltage 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C10 2000MHz Triple Channel

anyone got a better spec for £700? Don't need PSU, HDD, Monitor ect just the guts.

save what you've got for now, theres gonna be new intel tech coming out very soon, and the intel i series is changing sockets so, i wouldnt waste the money

I presume you mainly use your PC for gaming?

I would wait for the next refresh of CPU of CPUs & Motherboards next year for the big upgrade.

For now just upgrade Graphics Card and get a nice SSD for your OS (Presuming you don't already have one :))

Yeah mainly gaming and video production. I'm gonna give my girlfriend my current PC and already got an SSD :) I dunno if I can hold onto £700 for 3 months got my eyes set on a DLSR.

Computer is still really fast except certain games like Gothic 4 are starting to slow down, have to drop to 720P @25-30FPS.

Still an awesome CPU/mobo/RAM combo, just get new gfx and leave it at that, could get 2 6870s in xfire
then buy gf a cheapish i3 system or the like, and dedicate your old gfx to it if you like

Wait till November and buy a nice 69xx graphics card, you will have no problems gaming for the near future then as others have said you will have a nice big chunk of money just in time for the new Bulldozer and Sandybridge CPUs early next year :).

Honestly if I were you I would wait until the 6990 (dual gpu card) is released and spend your money on that.
Or 6950/6970 if you don't really need that much power.

Unless you feel your CPU is really struggling I wouldn't even think about a cpu/mobo/ram upgrade until at least Q3 2011 when the next enthusiast socket is released (LGA2011). Perhaps by that time you will have saved up some more money?

Okay think I might wait and hope I get another job soon. This is the PC my girlfriend picked it's more money than upgrading mine and handing it down.
