Gents,

The rear shock on my stumpy is making some horrendous noises (screechy and bubbling). Still feels reasonably good (not great) but sounds crap no matter how much i lube the shaft (yeah baby!). Previously it was serviced by TF-tuned but they now refuse to work on this model (Specialized AFR) which was manufactured by Fox.

Spoken to Fox and they said contact Specialized UK. Spoken to Specialized UK and they said...you guessed it, speak to Fox.

Does anyone know either;

a) A recommended company that will service this model

or

b) A suitable replacement. It seems to have a bit of an odd length (~184.5mm).

Help appreciated! Thanks.

Probably need to give the stroke length too.

Only problem with old bikes. Maybe there are some service guides online if you can find the parts?

If you still like the bike, find out the stroke length, what size mounting hardware it needs and then ditch the shock and brain and pick up a replacement normal shock, probably aiming for mid rebound and compression as it's default configuration.

So, sent specialized another email about this yesterday and got a different response!
They've simply asked that I contact my local retailer who can send it back to them directly and they'll have it serviced (for a fee of course).
Probably easier and about £100 cheaper than buying a new shock and mounts.

fair enough, personally id get it replaced if you intend on keeping the frame for long. those shock parts will have a certain end of life factor.

I know, that's my concern.

The shock itself was serviced annually up until about 3 years ago. Since that time however the bike's only had very light usage in terms of impact and was until recently completely smooth and silent.

Bit of a pickle!
