Hi OcUK,

Im off tomorrow to test drive a 2009 CTR GT 27k miles on the clock and Full Honda Service History - in a Honda dealership.

I'm just wondering, having driver a couple before if there is anything particular to look out for on these, anything that's prone to going wrong or something particular to check?

Thank you in advance :)

Usual things, rust behind door seals, make sure third gear engages properly without popping out.
TBH I can't remember the other things but be wary if they let you boot it into VTEC from cold.

I'd be looking for things like checking it hasn't been in a crash or had any bodged bodywork done on it.
At 27000 miles I bet it would have had new tyres on - Check they aren't a poverty brand.

I didn't think new cars rusted as badly as old ones due to galvanised steel, plus there is absolutely no valid reason why a 2009 car would have rust on it! My 2000 plain mild steel Micra isn't rusty!

The rust issue effected the 2008's so don't see why this one would be exempt, it's specific to this car.

OEM fit tyres will be Bridgestone Potenzas. A CTR with cheap tyres would ring alarm bells and be something that would make me question other things about the car.

for a 2009 car, there is going to be no catastrophic wear and tear so it would be best to check all the body work and interior to make sure there is nothing blindingly obvious like dents/scratches in the wings, stitching on the seats coming undone etc.

also check the state of the alloys and make sure they havent been slammed into a pot hole

for a car so recent, it would worry me if there was anything majorly wrong with it, I personally wouldn't buy a car that recent and 'put up with' niggly issues

bar that, there is a thread on what to look for here on a EP3, more or less the same applies

I've only had a blast of an FN2 round a track, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. From what I remember the gearbox was almost on par with the one in my S2000, so if it feels sloppy it might be a bit tired... highly unlikely at that mileage though !

plumped for it, pick it up on Wednesday - thanks for the advice guys :)

was on Bridgestone tyres up front, both worn to less than 3mm so both being replaced, two front alloys with 'light' kurbing being done also and got £500 off the list price in addition to the work (cosmetic body stuff also).

Thanks again :)

Sounds good, fire some pics on - what colour?

My nighthawk black diesel looks like somebody has come alongand poured gravel over the bonnet and front bumper, Honda paint sucks. Have done 76k now right enough.

I have a real itching for a type R as I love the std kit if the EX and the 09 type R is pretty similar. She hates the red seats and doesn't want a 3 door though, cant win!

Sure - Milano Red (same as my current 1.6 Sport and i love the colour)

The Honda paint really does suck, little point getting the stone chips sorted though as they'll all appear again within 1,000 miles I'm sure.

I suppose this 3 door lark will only last as long as its just me and the wife, as soon as some little fRostiE's come along it might need to get more serious on the car front!! Until then I'll make the most eh!! Pics:

Just a standard Type-R i suppose :)

Looks good - milano red should be better than nhb.

This is about as close as you can get to mine without seeing the dreaded chips!
