Following a thread on Bikers Oracle I went ahead and modded my dash.

I think it looks pretty good :)

My ER-6f has blue fairings etc so this goes well with it

I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone trying it and ruining their dash :p

But there's a little bit of fairing/screen removal and then dismantling the dash. I'd say if someone wanting to try this couldn't work that out they wouldn't really want to be attempting the soldering of 8 micro LEDs.

I'll see if I can find the original thread that was linked from the Bikers Oracle one.

Ok, I've just borrowed this from the thread that I followed to do it.

You'll see another link at the bottom which links to another thread of someone that did it to an older model ER6. The principle is the same though. The soldering was very fiddly.

Here's how its done.

Order some PLCC2 SMT LEDs in the colour of your choice. I got mine from an ebay seller called Phenoptix They cost me £2.50 for 10. Here they are.

They are 3.5 x 2.8mm in size, voltage is about 3.2 volts. These are the same as ours.

To remove and disassemble the ER6F Dash

1. Remove the screen

2. Remove the 2 plugs holding the triangle cover

3. Remove the 2 allen bolts on the top of each side of the fairing next to the dash.

4. Undo the 3 screws holding the dash assembly on.

5. Pull the dash and surround out. Flip it over and remove the dash via the 3 screws.

6. Disassemble the dash cluster by removing all the screws.

7. Remove the rear cover. The circuit board and inner assembly come out as 1 piece.

8. When you flip it out, you find 2 white pins will also fall out, these are for the rubber switch on the front of the dash, remeber to reinsert these when building back up the unit.

9. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, locate all the tab around the outter edge and the 2 in the middle, and bend them straight so the PCB can be seperated.

10. Next undo all the screws holding the PCB down.

11. And there you have the PCB out and ready to solder.

I wont bore you with the soldering bit, you can read it here:

How you finding the er6? I am still looking at these when I pass my test.

She's been great so far. I have short legs so was able to get a lowering kit for it and lower seat which helps.

She's pretty nippy too, and corners well.

Not to mention the looks, which are great imo :)

I went straight from a CBF125 to this so there was quite a weight difference to get used to. Dropped her once in a carpark as the bike suddenly stopped while I was slow turning into a space, extra weight caught me off guard. I left the gravel rash on my fairing to remind me ;)

Riding position suits me well also. I can sit up while filtering or when I'm after extra cooling in summer. Or I can hug the tank for a blast :)
