In mint condition
Seller wants £500?

Is this a good deal?

Is it unibody? If not then that's around what it's worth, if it is then yeah it's a 'good deal' as the Unibody is worth £600.

For comparison I sold my Late 2008 Unibody MB, 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD a few weeks ago for £550 cash.

I would say that's a decent deal, Depending on you're needs you couldn't go wrong by sticking an SSD in and it'd be in a different league.

How fast will it be? (only ever used windows on a laptop before)

Sounds about right. I'd personally look to spend £450 though

Cool. I bought a mint, boxed one on the MM a few months ago for £325. Should hold that price well.
