The trackpad on my MBP is playing up and I think its software related. I can't click or click and hold/drag anymore, I can only tap single and two finger works fine.

I've spoken to Apple support and they tried a few things and suggested a re-install, OSX Mavericks. However the machine boots to the login each time I try and boot to OSX Recovery (Command-R). This made me think that the keyboard was duff too but it works fine once its booted.

Any ideas what this could be?

do you have any Mavericks disc or on usb flash drives? can you try get hold of them.

if you have disc:
press power then hold Alt (option) key. this will bring you OSX boot menu. from there you can reinstall osx.

i doubt it is software related. i would just go on ebay then buy a new trackpad.

What OS is on it now, as with some older models/OS's CMD+R doesn't work. You can only install it from the DVD IIRC.

It's likely to be the trackpad itself, get a new one in there, takes about 30 minutes to replace.
